Re-opening of businesses and venues from 4 July

On 23 June 2020, the Prime Minister announced further easements of the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions as part of Step Three of the government’s plan to return life to as near normal as we can. If you need any extra support or guidance please see the below links to the government website on the following subjects;

Planning advice - tables and chairs outside your business premises

To make the process of planning easier the government are looking to simplifying some processes, through the proposed Business and Planning Bill.  This will introduce a number of measure to help businesses get back to work by making changes to licensing and planning processes and requirements.  It is expected this will include changes to the way in which licences for tables and chairs outside premises are issued and we are preparing for this.

If you would like assistance planning issues connected to this, please contact our planning team on dcplanning@chichester.gov.uk or call 01243 534734 and ask to speak to Fjola Stevens.

For queries about licensing, please contact licensing@chichester.gov.uk

Licensing Act 2003 and The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 (as amended)

Currently, there are no statutory changes or relaxations to the Licensing Act 2003 requirements which means that all licensed premises must, when trading, be operated in full compliance with the various terms of any granted Premises Licence or in case of a members club, Club Premises Certificate.  This means providing only the licensable activities authorised by the licence/certificate, on the specified days and times and in accordance with all conditions.  Amongst other matters, operators that are permitted to trade must ensure that the current social distancing requirements are fully complied with in order to minimise the potential for COVID-19 to spread.

Social distancing signage for businesses to download

There are various designs of signage you can download here chichester.gov.uk/supportlocal  to use in your business. We would like to remind businesses that government guidance is to display a notice visibly in shop windows or outside the store  to show their employees, customers and other visitors that they have followed the government guidance and completed a Covid19 risk assessment. The downloadable sign can be found here: https://bit.ly/CV19Sign
