When I had brought them no grief...

Those are not my words. They are God's. He had served believers in such a way as to not grieve them. And that short phrase jumped out at me. It was one of those times you are reading along (probably too fast) and then stop and say to yourself, "Wait, what did he just say?"

God had wanted the exiled believers to know his forgiveness, undying love and eternal comfort, but some diviners and false prophets said otherwise, and God would have none of it. Those false prophets were grieving a repentant people he was aiming to comfort. They were stepping in between the mother bear and her cub. And that short phrase is in the middle of one awesome tirade from our Lord's mouth. Here's the context:

"Because you disheartened the righteous with lies, when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives, therefore you will no longer see false visions or practice divination. I will save my people from your hands. And then you will know that I am the Lord."
Ezekiel 13:22-23

Think about it. To know that God does not grieve us as his ultimate goal, but rather comforts and settles our hearts by his love is a relief beyond telling. Find solace in it and combine it to a broader aspect of faith that keeps its confidence in God despite the fact we don't deserve it and despite the presence of suffering and pain in our lives. Sure, God's law kills. It brings grief over sin. But God's Word doesn't leave you there to mourn and lament forever. He rushes in to declare his saving ways and surround you with joy in the name of Jesus.

We live in unprecedented times with the opportunity to comfort in unprecedented ways. Be bold and speak up in the face of lies about God to tell others the truth that he is love!
  1. If you plan to come in-person for worship this Sunday, feel free to use our "pre-friendship register". You don't need an actual, printed ticket to get in, of course - this is just a digital tool that helps us see the number of people planning to come, as we are limited to 50 people or less per service.

HEART SONG: Resting Place
Sunday, July 5th |8:15 am & 9:30 am

For a heart to sing, it must be stilled and calmed from all its troubles. With so much unrest and unsettled aspects of our lives, we get tired and weary. The worst offender, though, remains the pain and burden of our own sinfulness. With deep gratitude, we turn to God and find rest in Jesus.

Readings:
Romans 7:15–25a
Matthew 11:25–30
Watch Friday's Zoom study of Romans 14. Contact Pastor for Zoom info to join us Fridays at 10:30am!

May he offer all his blessings unto you so you may feel his everlasting love on your baptism day and always.
It's time! The picture wall is showing its age! Some of you are taller, some of you are older (ok...all of you!), and some of you have more kids than your picture suggests! Time for new pictures! Please submit your new picture (zoomed-in pictures preferred) to livingsaviorco@gmail.com. We will be collecting new pictures for about 3 weeks, and then we will resort to snagging pictures from social media! :-)
