From the Rector

 Dear Friends,

As we approach Independence Day, I am reminded of the responsibilities of our liberty. We still struggle to live into an understanding that all are created equal. We can celebrate that we live in a society that offers us the freedom to engage that ongoing work.

In many ways, learning to love God and neighbor has that same unfolding quality about it. Scripture tells the story of God revealed to a particular people and how that revelation continued to expand.

We now find ourselves seeing that there can be a connection even by virtual means. We are reminded that we are often blind even when we think we can see.

I pray that we will not hold lightly the responsibilities of the liberties we enjoy. Even though we can't meet together, we are still the Body of Christ. We can still discover ways of loving God and our neighbor. I encourage you to engage in the opportunities we do have to worship, study, and prayer via virtual means. We continue to explore the safest way and time to meet again.

Celebrate the freedom we have as a nation and in Christ. Faithfully exercise that freedom to extend that liberty to all.
Peace,

Fr. John Mark

Fourth Wednesdays, 4:00 p.m. Race Relations Discussion Series

Once again, the divisions and disparity along lines of race have been clearly revealed. There is a different quality to the response this time. At St. James, we have launched a discussion series about racism and how we can faithfully respond. We have three sessions scheduled on Zoom on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. through August.

On July 22, Brian Austin will lead a conversation about the book Tears We Cannot Stopby Michael Eric Dyson.

On August 26, Margaret Bickley will lead us in a discussion of I’m Still Here by Austin Channing Brown.

You must register to be part of these Zoom meetings. Click here to register. This registration will get you signed up for all the meetings, even if you can’t make them all. You will receive a link and password once registered.
Thursday group, 10:00 a.m.

Join us for an hour and 15 minutes of sharing, discussing, laughing and praying. Topics vary from week to week. If you have never attended the Thursday morning group, perhaps you’d like to give it a try.
