Finding Hope In The Middle of Trouble

There is an incredibly powerful, yet almost unknown verse tucked away in the Old Testament book of Hosea. If you have read the verse, you most likely paid little attention to it and probably had no idea what it meant or how it was relevant in today’s world.

Hosea 2:15 in the KJV reads, “I will give her her vineyards from thence and the valley of Achor for a door of hope”. Do you see how easy it is to miss any relevance to the world we live in?

What does "thence" mean anyway? The verse is incredibly relevant when you discover what is actually being said, especially to the situations that many of us are facing today.

The valley of Achor is an actual place near the biblical city of Jericho on the northern border of the tribe of Judah. It was a place of great pain, despair, and hopelessness. The Hebrew word Achor means serious trouble and affliction.

We all face trouble and affliction. We all have times when life becomes overwhelming. For many, that time is now! This past weekend, I did a Zoom seminar with Shanghai Christian Fellowship. The theme was “What you need to know when your world is turned upside down”.

For Bev and me, this past year has been horrendous. Everything has been turned upside down and it doesn’t seem to stop. About the time you face and overcome one challenge, another one comes. At times, it feels like they happen all at once.

The message of Hosea 2:15 is that God can change your trouble into triumph. “I will ...transform the valley of trouble into a gateway of hope”. The Message translation puts it this way, “I will turn heartbreak valley into acres of Hope”.

Do you see how relevant that verse is in today’s world? Trouble can cause pain, but it can also make us deal with issues, re-examine ourselves, and ask for God for help. Trouble becomes the gateway, the door to hope, wow!

You may be in a valley of trouble, a valley of loneliness, or a valley of debt. You may not see any way out, but It isn't permanent. God is saying, “I’m about to transform that valley into a gateway of hope”.

Update!

I want to take a minute and update you on our move and my health. After several months, the move is complete. We are able to stop and rest for a while. The move was long and emotional, but it’s done!

The best news is that with our amazing God and a great team of doctors, my red blood cells are now producing on their own. There is no sign of cancer! I feel full of energy and ready to go!

Thank you for all the love, prayer, and support you have given us during this time. Words cannot express how grateful we are!

Thank you, Jesus, for your healing touch and thank all of you for standing with us.

We love you and hope to see many of you soon!
