According to School Code Section 10-20.21, the board is authorized to purchase supplies and materials involving an expenditure in excess of $25,000, without bidding, where funds are expended in an emergency and the expenditure is approved by three quarters of the board.
As it has only recently been announced by the Illinois State Board of Education that schools should plan to reopen for the 2020-21 school year and personal protective equipment must be acquired prior to reopening, the board approved an emergency purchase of personal protective equipment, including face masks, shields, gowns, and other equipment as needed.
