August Highlights
Covid-19 brought many limitations to our mobile program this year. Our office is currently open to scheduling appointments while practicing Covid protocol.

Woman's Affair 2020

The Woman's Affair was a great event. So much support coming together to embrace  women oriented businesses in Fairbanks. We had some fun games, great conversation and even made a furry friend!
Thank You!
We are so excited to announce that BCDC has received a grant from the Rural Health Care Fund established by Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska. The Rural Health Fund – a limited fund grant program, established by Premera and administered in partnership with Rasmuson Foundation and the Alaska Community Foundation – supports access to quality health care in rural Alaska communities. Our grant ask was for funding for upgrades for our 2 Selenia Dimensions mammography systems`; ClarityHD+ software and the SmartCurve Breast Stabilization system. ClarityHD+ is Hologic’s high resolution imaging upgrade, which enables the Radiologist to read mammography images in a clearer, more defined imaging format. This software has proven to help Radiologist confidence in diagnosing suspicious areas such as calcifications and lesions in the breast. This technology also uses 3DQuorum software to reduce read time by 15%, while keeping the file size equal to standard 3D files. In addition, the SmartCurve upgrade is for a set of 2 curved paddles, which offer a more comfortable mammogram than traditional flat paddles. With this technology, BCDC assures you that you are getting an exam done by the most caring technologists with the best quality 3D Tomosynthesis has to offer.

With COVID 19 and the limitations on shipping, it may take a several months to implement this technology, we will let you know when it is ready.

The Breast Cancer Detection Center Board and staff would like to thank Premera/ Rasmuson/ and Alaska Community Foundation for this support to help us bring early detection to women in Alaska, regardless of their ability to pay.
Mammogram Basics

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer death rates have declined over several decades due to improvements in early detection. This is why mammograms are so important. BCDC understands the stress of annual check ups and waiting for results. That's why we have a quality team that cares about you and your experience!

Covid-19 Concerns Limits Care for Rural Women

The Breast Cancer Detection Center's Chief Executive Officer Odette Butler, speaks with KHNS-FM's Claire Stremple about the impact of Covid. Due to strict protocols and mandates surrounding the pandemic, BCDC's mobile program limits their 2020 summer trips. Odette express the concern for women truly limited to breast cancer detection resources. Covid has forced the mobile team to exercise precautions with their current scheduled locations for this year. The team has a major determination to meet all sites and be fully prepared to attack next summer sites. Odette expresses that regardless if clients get help from BCDC the most important thing is that they are being seen, being heard and proactive.
