Good Morning

Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking information to help ensure future trade access for fruit and vegetable products to China. They would like growers to answer seven short questions by the end of next week, Friday 10 July.

Please return your completed spreadsheet to plantexports@mpi.govt.nz.

Background

MPI has been requested to provide a register of all production and processing establishments (e.g. packing facilities) involved in exports of fruit and vegetable products to China. This register will need to list products by commodity/product. MPI is aware that a similar request has been made by China to all other trading partners.

MPI understands this request has stemmed from COVID-19 concerns. By capturing this data, MPI wants to ensure current trade is not adversely affected by these concerns.

MPI understands that the information provided will not be used at this stage as a border clearance tool at the Chinese border.

MPI is examining how to best facilitate clearance of exports against any list provided to China customs officials. This will include assessing what information already exists with MPI, such as the Food Act registration, and what information industry will be able to provide.
