Join us Tuesday, 9/8, noon to 1:30pm for an informational/educational webinar on the District's low-cost equipment rental program. What can you accomplish with the right equipment?
How can the District’s low-cost equipment rental program help you?
• Appropriate field maintenance can increase forage or hay yields by suppressing weed growth, incorporating organic material into the soil, and increasing plant
diversity into your fields.
• No-till seeding preserves soil structure and soil organic matter, which benefits plant root growth and water holding capacity.
• Seasonal field dragging can break up manure deposition, spreading nutrients more evenly across the field.
Best Management Practices to start or consider now:
• Before resorting to equipment to improve your fields, assess your management to see if changes will give you the same improvements at a lower cost.
• If you broadcast seed, use a cultipacker to press the seed into the soil. This reduces seed loss to herbivory and improves seed-soil contact for successful
germination.
• If you find un-decomposed manure piles in your field, use a harrow to speed decomposition and spread the nutrients around your pasture.
