Summer 2020 Newsletter

As the school year draws to a close, no-one will forget what a strange period of time this has been, but with a new academic year starting in September, we are preparing for an exciting and busy 2020-2021.

In addition to the
annual Gloucestershire K'Nex Challenge and Worcestershire Primary STEM Challenge we have other inspiring opportunities, including online activities that you may like to investigate.

KS1 and KS2 Workshops

We’re now taking bookings for the school year 2020–21 and keen to return into schools to inspire your pupils. Information about all of our workshops can be found here.

We offer a range of ½ day and full day workshops that all encourage your pupils to use and develop their STEM skills but wanted to highlight a few very popular activities.

KS1 Coding - developed for KS1 but can be extended for lower KS2
LEGO WeDo Year 3-4 - using SCRATCH to control Lego models, suitable for lower KS2
K'NEX Computer Controlled Fairgrounds - most suitable for upper KS2
LEGO Robotics - most suitable for upper KS2

Gloucestershire K'Nex Challenge 2020-2021

We are already taking bookings for next years challenge.

Renishaw are continuing to sponsor the challenge and provide a subsidy to each school. We will run a ½ day session with the winning team being invited to represent your school at the final. Click here for more information about the workshop. You should soon receive registration details for the challenge, please email admin@stemworks.co.uk if it does not reach you.

STEMworks Online Activities

Our STEM videos are available online to support the learning of science and design & technology at school or home.

If you would like to view or share the videos, they are accessible via our STEMworks Limited YouTube channel here. Please share your results and tag us using @STEMworksUK #CRESTathome, #TeamScience #STEMatHome.

The activities include some of the CREST Awards Superstar Challenges. We have also created a CREST Discovery Award Challenge video focusing on sustainability issues. This is suitable to share with KS3 pupils. For further ideas to promote science and technology, please look at their resources here
