In these uncertain and trying times the aim of the E-Newsletter is to keep people in the parish informed and in contact with other people in the parish. We make no apology for repeating information from previous E-Newsletters. Additional information is included this week.
The Messenger needs help!
We hope to start producing the Messenger again in the autumn but a new editor for the publication is needed. The Messenger is delivered to every home in the parish and is greatly valued by the community, particularly those who find the internet difficult to access. St Peter's Church - Reopening on 12th July at 11.00 am
Thankfully, the lockdown is easing, and things are getting back to a bit more normal. For the past few weeks St. Peter’s Church, Myddle, has been open twice a week for private prayer. We are now permitted to take the next step towards ‘normal’ by holding services of joint prayer and the first one will be next Sunday morning, 12th July, at 11.00 am. Singing and loud speaking throw out droplets from the back of our throats so, as the coronavirus thrives on moisture, our service will have to be quiet and contemplative with no hymns. We are still required to maintain two metres social distancing so seating will be on numbered, separated pews, and we will exit the church building separately from the other door. The church will then be locked for the required 72 hours, to avoid the need for deep cleaning, which would be difficult in such an ancient building. A message from Jaqui and Pete at the The Red Lion in Myddle
Well we’ve had a busy few days getting the Red Lion ready for our re-opening on the 4th of July at 12.00 Noon. Just a heads up on a few changes we have made to keep everyone safe. Everybody will be asked to sanitise their hands on entry to the pub either at the front door or back door. For those not booked in for food we ask that you scan the QR code and leave your details on the form provided. There will be no sitting or standing at the bar and everyone inside must be seated. We will be operating full table service. Your drinks or food will be brought to a nearby spare table and you can collect them from there. Please do not move tables and chairs as they have been placed to ensure everyone is socially distant.
To ensure your safety all our staff have been briefed in our policies and will be temperature checked to ensure they are fit to work. All our tables and touch points will be thoroughly sanitised before the next guests take their seat. All our menus will be single use and condiments will be in sachets where possible. We will also operate a priority system when going to the toilets with a maximum of 2 people in the toilets at any one time.
Please bear with us at this time as service will be a little slower than we would like as we all get used to a new way of working. Looking forward to seeing you all again over the coming weeks. Peter & Jacqui.

AIRBAND

A message from AIRBAND
Airband will be providing fibre broadband to Myddle later this summer in partnership with Shropshire Council, with average speeds of 40 megabytes per second download and 10 megabytes per second upload guaranteed. We would like to reach out to residents in the parish area; from Myddle down to Harmer Hill, as we can provide an excellent service to many households in the parish for under 30 pounds per month, without needing a phoneline. We provide fibre broadband from fibre only, disregarding the use of copper which deteriorates with distance, and the broadband speeds will be excellent regardless of where you are in the parish. Airband install and maintain their own network, and you can expect to see engineers out in the coming weeks and months!

MYDDLE, BROUGHTON & HARMER HILL PARISH COUNCIL Meeting Report.
The Council met in June using Zoom to hold an online event which was attended by nearly all the Council Members who were joined by two members of the public raising concerns about flooding on Ellesmere Road, Harmer Hill; the increasing use of mountain bikes in local woodland and the planning application for development at Harmer Hill Reservoir.
Members then considered a range of issues including:
Street Lights:
It was decided to complete the change to LED units for all the lights in the Parish using money from the Community Infrastructure Levy grant and E.ON will be carrying out the work over the next few months.
Road Traffic:
It was reported that the Community Speed Watch Team had been able to start operating again in Myddle and they will be supported by an additional Road Side Data recorder which has been erected in Baschurch Road. This is all part of a scheme to identify and reduce the number of speeding vehicles and improve the safety of residents.
Community Environment Project:
Mr. Busi continues to undertake work in the Parish which would normally have been carried out by Shropshire Council staff. The project is funded jointly by Shropshire and the Parish Councils and has proved invaluable over the past couple of years in getting a range of tasks completed and improving the ambiance of the Parish.
Audit:
The Internal Audit report was considered in detail and Members were pleased to note that no concerns had been raised about the finances and the overall management of the Council. Details of the income and expenditure reports can be found on the Councils web site – www.myddleandbroughton-pc.gov.uk as can a draft copy of the minutes from the meeting.
The financial documents and the reports now have to be sent to the External Auditors who are based in London and appointed by the Government.
Parish Paths:
During the current ‘lockdown’ the use of the range of paths available in the Parish has become increasingly important and every effort is being made to publicise the location of the paths and make certain that they are accessible. Members were pleased to hear that many farmers had made an exceptional effort to ensure that they were kept open. An impressive improvement had been made to Hollins Lane to prevent motorised vehicles using the footpath which is designated for pedestrians and horse riders.
Planning Applications:
At every Council meeting there is an opportunity for Councillors to consider applications for development in the Parish which have been submitted to Shropshire Council and this month was no exception when a total of five applications were tabled and considered. In the main most applications are supported but at times objections are raised for a variety of reasons and this month considerable concern was expressed about the planned development at Harmer Hill Reservoir and the Clerk was instructed to submit a lengthy document outlining the reasons for the objection. Because of the current difficulties in holding meetings, this application has been emailed to Members for consideration and there has been a unanimous response objecting to the application for the following reasons:
The proposed development is already in the process of being constructed without planning approval and seemingly without a building regulations assessment.
It would appear that the application is being made under the regulations relating to the conversion of redundant agricultural buildings or for completed buildings neither of which apply to this site.
In the Parish Plan there was no call for this type of development within the Parish and this application constitutes a development in open countryside which is completely unacceptable.
The application declares it as an agricultural storage building whereas it is patently designed as a vehicle workshop.
It is stated that only hand tools will be used which will limit any repair programme.
The building is of poor quality and visually intrusive.
No new access is proposed and the current access is via an un-surfaced farm track which is totally unsuitable for the number and nature of the vehicles it is anticipated would access the unit. There is little or no visibility for drivers leaving the site and the turn at the top is sharp and unsuitable for long vehicles.
The outline plan of the building lacks detail and is being constructed with unsuitable materials.
There is no plan for adequate parking on the site.
The plan has no indication of an area for waste storage and lacks a policy for the disposal of waste materials and trade effluents that would be created when machine maintenance is carried out.
Questions must be raised about the risk of radiation from the nearby radio transmitters and the possible interference to radio signals from a two storey building..
There are few details of the bird watching platform and is questioned why such a site should be required where there is little evidence of vegetation and the outlook is over flat land.
Several people are concerned about scammers contacting them by phone calls related to test and trace.

Reminder
Unless the landowner permits it, cycling on a footpath in England and Wales normally constitutes trespass, making it a civil but not a criminal matter. Much of our local woodland has a number of Permissive Paths allowed by the land owners who are concerned by the number of mountain bikes who are on their land and causing damage to the tracks and the environment.

We are now so dependant on technology to communicate with families, friends and shops during this crisis. For this reason Colin Ruck has offered to assist and advise anyone within the parish who is having IT problems or just wants to install Skype, WhatsApp, Zoom, Facebook, etc.
