Mandatory Facial Protection Order & Operational Updates
“The number of positive cases is increasing in alarming rates and so are the hospitalizations in our region,” said Mayor Yolanda Ford. “It is very important for us to do our part in protecting ourselves and also others around us. That is why, in addition to the Harris County and Fort Bend County mask orders, I issued the mandatory facial protection order in Missouri City to ensure the safety of our citizens and stakeholders as we continue to move our economy forward.”

Economic Assistance During COVID-19
As Fort Bend County rolled out the Rental/Mortgage/Utility Assistance Program in June, about 7,500 applications were submitted and of that, 1,201 were Missouri City residents. This is further proof that there are MCTX residents being affected by this pandemic. The next phase of this program begins July 20 and residents may find more details via the link below.

To further assist MCTX citizens, staff is working with the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC) to finalize programs to expend the funding allocation of $174,516 for Missouri City from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Did You Know? 
Street lights within Missouri City limits are maintained by CenterPoint Energy and to report an outage, residents may call 713.207.2222 or Submit Online.
Within the last year, as part of the energy savings contract with NORESCO and in partnership with CenterPoint Energy, NORESCO oversaw the LED street lights conversion project within the City. In communities where the streetlights are owned by homeowners associations, board members or property managers may call CenterPoint directly at 713.945.3245 to inquire about streetlights being converted.

Community Spotlight: #MCTXStrong
People are in need of assistance now more than ever. This was evident at the PPE/Food Distribution event held at City Hall on June 27, where more than 650 cars drove through to receive their essential supplies. Additional distributions are planned, stay tuned for more details.

Community Spotlight: Congratulations Farmers Market Partners Missouri City!
The Farmers Market Partners celebrated their one year anniversary at the Sienna Springs location on June 27, 2020. According to the group, more than 15,000 patrons have visited the location throughout the year and more than 70 small businesses have showcased their products.

All non-emergency City offices will be closed tomorrow, Friday, July 3 for the Holiday. The City’s Municipal Solid Waste provider will continue regular pickup as scheduled. For more details visit the City website.

American Legion Park Cleanup Set for Saturday, July 11
Calling all volunteers to join us in making Missouri City more “Scenic.” All participants are required to wear masks and strict social distancing guidelines will be followed at the cleanup.

Texas Parkway & Cartwright Road Medians Upgrade

The landscape development project on the Texas Parkway and Cartwright Road medians is managed by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and is fully funded by TxDOT. Despite several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project is now expected to be complete by the beginning of August. City staff is coordinating weed control and other necessary steps with the TxDOT team to maintain the area while these infrastructure upgrades are progressing.

2020 General & Special Election; Applications Being Accepted Starting Monday, July 20

In accordance with the Texas Election Code, the City will hold a General and Special Election on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The positions on the ballot for the General Election are Mayor, At-Large Position #1 and At-Large Position #2. And, the Special Election will include a proposition providing for or against the adoption of the fire fighters’ and police officers’ civil service law.

#TRANSPARENCY: Follow the FY 2021 Budget Preparations

In recent weeks, the City hosted a three-day budget session with City Council to provide an overview of the Fiscal Year 2021 budget. Staff from all departments provided specifics on their current year accomplishments, upcoming goals and requests for FY 2021.

In the upcoming weeks, staff will prepare/finalize the Proposed FY 2021 Budget and will submit it to the City Council, file it with the City Secretary and post it on the City website by Friday, July 31.
