Celebrating Communion on July 5

Two Options for Observing Holy Communion:

 1. Communion will be Celebrated during our two worship service broadcasts this week. In preparation for this time, we invite you to gather bread and juice for all who will worship with you. Further instruction will be given during the broadcast.

2. Drive Thru Communion will be offered on site at the church  from Noon until 1pm on Sunday July 5. We invite you to enter our parking lot from the traffic light on Second and Adams and then follow the guidance of our volunteers directing traffic. Vehicles will form two lines to approach the communion serving stations which will be located in the parking lot between the alley and Fourth Street and clearly marked. Communion will be served to you while you remain in your vehicle.
On the First Tuesday of each month we invite you to Shop, Drop, and Roll to fill the Bread of Life Food Pantry in the church office. Food bags are assembled from the pantry inventory and delivered weekly to local families in need. List of items needed:

YOUTH NEWS

Jones’ Express
All Aboard! Last call!
(Enjoy these lighthearted stories from Jamelle Jones (Asst. Youth Director)on the Jones Express! Look for more in future issues of the Weekly Word.)

What do you get when an elephant and a fish cross each other on a walking path?... Swim trunks! I know that you loved reading that bad dad joke. I have always found humor in terrible dad jokes. Most of them make me laugh hysterically, while others leave me wondering why the joke was said. Regardless of your vantage point a joke, there is a good amount of truth revealed in them. One of those undeniable truths about a joke is that it gives you the opportunity to smile and laugh. Everyone needs to be reminded that the joy of the Lord does live in the laughter and the smiles of His children. Smile more. Laugh more. Enjoy your friends and family’s company. And don’t forget to tell a bad joke every now and then.
I hurt my foot the other day, who did I call?......  The toe company – hahahahaha!
Thank you for traveling on Jones' Express!

A Message to Parents with Children

We know the last three months have been tough for all of us.  Now that school is officially out and summer is here, we are giving our children a break from Zoom Sunday school.  This will also give our dedicated teachers Cindy Goodfellow, Emily Lincoln and other volunteers a little break.
During this time, we encourage your family to continue attending Sunday worship together online.  Pastor Tom has a special Children’s Time during those services for children.
Any questions:  kay.birkholz@fumctemple.org
Prayer Warriors

Calling all those who have love to pray!! The youth
ministry is about to start a new effort by offering Alpha classes online for the students. We believe prayer is not the least you can do but the most. One of the key elements with this is assembling a prayer team. If you would like to be apart of changing students lives then we need you to contact Pastor Kit (youth@fumctemple.org).

Why does my Church need MinistrySafe?

Many churches retain the false impression that “my ministry is not at risk”.  And yet, in the past decade sexual abuse has been the number one reason churches have ended up in court.  MinistrySafe training equips ministry leaders, staff members and volunteers to recognize the offender’s grooming process and report those behaviors before the abuse occurs.  Offenders are drawn to programs with fewer protections in place: the welcoming, inclusive environment of many churches provides a prime target.

First United Methodist Church utilizes MinistrySafe, through the Central Texas Conference, to provide the church with a comprehensive system to reduce the risk of abuse of children, youth and vulnerable persons.  We are required to be MinistrySafe compliant.

As we conduct an audit of our MinistrySafe Users be on the look-out for reminders to re-take training or complete an application or reference form.  All procedures can be done online and/or over the phone.

We greatly appreciate your willingness to serve and to protect our most vulnerable population.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.  You may email me at amy.robbins@fumctemple.org or 254-773-5269 (where you can leave me a message)
