Training canceled Saturday July 4

Enjoy your July 4th holiday everyone, and stay safe!

Tigers following USAFL Phase 1 level

The Tigers are currently training at Phase 1 of the USAFL's recommended guidelines. So what does this mean? We're training in a group of less than 20 with no contact. Check out the USAFL's Return to Footy Safely Guidelines document. The USAFL will be sending out a decision July 15 regarding the fate of the 2020 National Tournament, which is scheduled for Oct. 10-11 in Ontario, Calif.

Coach's Corner

First, welcome to our new players! As we continue into July, I thank you for the wonderful work and efforts everyone has put forth far. It's exciting to see the veterans lead with great examples and assist our rookies in learning this sport.

A second thank you goes to everyone who joins the weekly Zoom coaching sessions. I appreciate the support and hope it has been returned to you all.

As we lead into July, please have a fun and safe 4th!  Be smart about the situations you put yourself in and try to minimize alcohol and fireworks proximity. We will continue in Phase 1 (no contact) until the Tigers Board feels it is safe to move up to light contact (Phase 2). It is my hope to move us on to full contact, scrimmages, and metro competition, followed by a game or two with other opponents before Nationals.

Keep up the work both on and off the field.  We are making wonderful progress in our physical and mental aspects of the game and are moving along as well as can be expected. I believe we are exceeding expectations given these unusual times. Play and have fun, keep learning, lead by example, and Go Tigers!

Did you know...

Did you know the Centennial Tigers were founded on a set of core values? (They also serve as an acronym for the Tigers.) We're proud of what we're doing. And we're honored to represent these values on and off the oval.

New to the sport? Read up!

As of now, 100 percent of the athletes on the Centennial Tigers are not Australian! Therefore, it's safe to say that none of them grew up playing the sport. If you're brand new or relatively new to the game, take a few minutes to watch this YouTube video and/or read this Deadspin article. Both help explain and break down aspects of our amazing game.
