Join us for our third session of FCCI Origin Series: Mexico with Agrofloresta Mesoamericana and Original Beans, on Saturday, July 11th, at 1 PM ET.

Dear colleagues,

This month, we are excited to share with you news of an upcoming event, as well as a summary of one of our ongoing education projects.

We are delighted to invite you to join us for our third session of the FCCI Origin Series, an in-depth guided discussion on Zoom with an all-star team of presenters: a cocoa producer, chocolate maker, Harvard Lecturer, and Culinary Institute of America Pastry Instructor. In our virtual classroom, we will travel together from the cocoa farm to the chocolate factory! To learn more about this educational fundraising project, and to sign up for our next session with Agrofloresta Mesoamericana and Original Beans, click here.

It's also a pleasure to share that our Executive Director Carla D. Martin, PhD, and our Senior Advisor Alyssa Jade McDonald-Baertl of cacao.academy, have launched a new educational project: FCCI Cacao Academy, a collaborative digital cacao farmer training peer-learning platform in development with a series of partners in Latin America that seek to supplement traditional extension training cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. To learn more, read the concept note for the project

In order to be transparent about progress as the project develops, we are hosting a series of livestream conversations each Wednesday through September 2020 at 10 AM Eastern Time/4 PM Central European Time. Leading our conversations is Lauren Heineck of Well Tempered Media, who hosts a popular podcast focused on cacao and chocolate. Our conversation videos are shared publicly and archived permanently in English here on our Facebook page, as well as with Spanish subtitles here on our YouTube page, and have already received over 2,500 views. This week, we will be joined by Santiago Rivas of the Dominican Center for Agriculture and Forestry and the Export Quality Program of IESC/USDA and Charles Kerchner, PhD, of Zorzal Cacao, to discuss their perspectives on how farmer field schools support cacao producers in the Dominican Republic in reaching their goals.

We're eager to hear feedback from and explore opportunities for partnership with interested individuals and organizations for FCCI Cacao Academy. Please do reach out to us directly if you would like to discuss the possibilities.

Wishing you a healthy and safe July,
The FCCI team

Our FCCI Cacao Academy conversation series sessions livestream every Wednesday at 10 AM EDT / 4 PM CET via Facebook Live. View the archived recordings with Spanish subtitles on our YouTube page. Click to view the videos for session 1 and session 2.
