Hey Halsey Family! Summer has finally arrived and for most of our families faculty its vacation time. Maybe this year its more like a STAY-Cation. With the pandemic still making its presence felt traveling is most likely limited.

That does not mean you cannot still enjoy some of the worlds most amazing sights to see. Take a look at the Discovery Education Website where they have Virtual Field Trips. They do field trips LIVE!!!  You can join them live on the virtual field trip or watch them later.
Each no-cost Virtual Field Trip comes with a companion guide packed with standards-aligned, hands-on learning activities!

OK - I know we all heard that the Mayor said schools will be opened in September with a staggered schedule. Until I hear it from Principal Suraci nothing is official to me. The city has sent a plan to the state and the state would have to  approve that plan. Then the plan has to be implemented by the school based on our capacity, number of staff required to handle class sizes of 8-9 students per class and so much more.

So until I hear from Principal Suraci what Halsey will be doing in September, nothing is official. Once we have more information on how schools will open we will not schedule an official orientation. This way when we do have one we are able for it to reflect how we will open in September.

I plan on hosting a Google Meet some time in July to say hello and break the ice through the wonderful world of technology. You can ask some questions which hopefully I will have answers to but if not those answers will come soon enough. Hang tight for an email in the near future that will contain the link to the Google Meet. I'll even try to have the Halsey Mascot, Barkley, on hand to say hi to the kids.

We will host some more episodes of Halsey Nights (Halsey Evening Talk Show) during the summer. First up will most likely be the PE teacher the amazing Ms. Butera with her Fitness Night. Ms. Butera runs a morning fitness club at the school for students. She also runs the Conservation Club where one of their tasks is to collect all the bottles and cans to recycle and the money they bring in they donate to our Green Team and other after school programs. Did you know that each summer Halsey hosts summer school for 3-4 Middle Schools along with students from private schools. This year Halsey is the host school for the entire District 28 Middle School summer school students. That consists of 8 schools plus private school students. Summer school is on remote learning as well and begins July 6th and runs until August 11th. Summer school takes place Monday through Thursday from 8:30am until 12:30pm. Out of over 1650+ students Halsey had only 20 students who were mandated to attend summer school. One student is one too many but its a pretty good % based on past years. Thats a little bit over 98% of our students that passed and moved on to higher education. We will do our best to get the rest on par.

On behalf of Principal Suraci and the entire Halsey JHS 157 faculty we would like to extend best wishes on a healthy and happy Independence Day Weekend.

Did you know that the Declaration of Independence was actually signed on July 2nd and not on July 4th?  Check it out:
The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
