GeoTech Center: Geospatial Technology Educator Certification - The first cohort has completed the certification. I confess, I lost touch with that effort, which was noted in a GeoTech Center newsletter last year (pdf). Thankfully, educator Jason Smolinsky, shared his certification on LinkedIn this week.

It launches this fall.
Chapelboro: Focus Carolina: Michael Emch - "Michael Emch, a distinguished Professor of epidemiology in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and geography and a fellow at the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has recently been using his expertise in epidemiology and geography to track the spread of COVID-19 — specifically in regards to where testing has occurred — in order to combine with other sets of data to determine disparities in testing, who got tested, how often and where and when those tests took place."

Chronicle of Higher Education: A professor finds that personal essays are surprisingly effective in building relationships in a synchronous virtual classroom. - Racheal Toor teaches writing, so this is not exactly the same as geography or GIS, but I will say that one of my favorite parts of my asynchronous grad "Trends in GIS" course was the weekly reflection essay each student submitted. I think there's a lot to be learned from reflection, no matter what one is studying, during these challenging times. Via Donna Genzmer.

EdScoop: U. Illinois partners with state to produce COVID-19 maps, tools - "The University of Illinois’ geospatial studies center has partnered with the Illinois state government to create 'a system of interactive maps, charts and animations' that will better track the spread of COVID-19." The project, called WhereCOVID-19, is housed in the university’s CyberGIS Center for Advanced Digital and Spatial Studies.
