Camden's New Climate Action Plan 2020-2025

Following Camden’s Citizens’ Assembly on the Climate Crisis last year, Camden has launched its Climate Action Plan, an ambitious five-year programme of projects and initiatives that brings to life a vision of a zero-carbon borough by 2030. This is the first of two plans.

The plan is themed around People, Places, Buildings and Organisations and delivers on the 17 Citizens’ Assembly recommendations.

Achieving these goals will require an effort by all local residents and businesses. The council aspires to lead by example, but collaboration and engagement with the people and organisations of Camden is even more important.

To ensure the continuation of citizen involvement from the assembly, a new citizen panel has been set up to help review Camden’s progress against the Climate Action Plan.

Please view the Climate Action Plan here.

Calculating Your Carbon Footprint- 2020 Conversion Factors

Carbon conversion factors for 2020 have recently been released by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Find the highlights below. The methodology for determining carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) remains the same year on year except where changes are outlined.

Electricity

As the main UK electricity grid continues to decarbonise with the increase in use of renewable sources, the carbon factor has decreased again this year by 8.79%.

Main changes

Cars
The methodology has been amended for the calculation of emission factors for both traditional and electric cars due to a change in the regulatory testing. This has resulted in a slight decrease in factor.

Bioenergy
Factors for biodiesel have been aligned to National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory methodologies. This has resulted in a substantial increase (around 420%) compared to 2019 factors.
