In 2019 artist Aditi Raman led an exciting series of textile workshops for the girls at Nari Gunjan’s Prerna School. She introduced participants to Tie & Die, Kantha, Appliqué and product design, orienting them with skills that could lead to career opportunities.

After a successful year, Aditi and the participants were all set to continue from April 2020; but the continuing lockdown due to COVID-19 has meant that the residential Prerna school has been closed temporarily and students have been sent back to their villages across Bihar. Most are now without access to education and their families are finding it hard to make ends meet.

Nari Gunjan was founded in 1987 by Padma Shri Sudha Varghese. The organisation has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of women and children from the Musahar Dalit community across Bihar.

Our engagement with Nari Gunjan since 2017 has helped participants build their confidence, creativity and artistic skills; it has opened their imaginations towards artistic careers. We very much look forward to nurturing these through our future workshops with them, as soon as the health situation settles in India.
