With the recession threatening the future of our youth, our new graduates have a fighting chance of gaining work. Celebrating their success and work-readiness at the Walter Nash Centre last week, students received their certificates and awards from YOUth INSPIRE Kaitiaki, Mayor Campbell Barry.
Alongside our business partners and whanau, it was a pleasure to have VIPs Minister Chris Hipkins and MP Ginny Andersen and Councillors Keri Brown, Josh Briggs, and Naomi Shaw showing their support for our rangatahi.
Minister Chris Hipkins and Mayor Campbell Barry with MP Ginny Andersen and GM of YOUth INPSIRE, Ali Black, congratulating our Excellence Award Winners, Jade Kopua and Matt Tomokino.
EXCELLENCE AWARDS WINNER
Each programme we have an award for those who we think are outstanding, have demonstrated growth, and gone above and beyond expectations.
INTRODUCING MATT TOMOKINO
If there was one word to describe Matt's journey it would be growth. He threw himself into this programme, participated at every opportunity, and demonstrated each skill we taught in our programme.
Matt was offered employment at Pak'nSave full-time in the butchery during COVID-19, and he has been there ever since, working long hours and enjoying the mahi!
In his graduation speech, Matt said, "The best part about the programme was it helps you get used to being outside of your comfort zone and interacting with others. I learned how to be confident within myself and communicate well with others."
INTRODUCING JADE KOPUA
Jade shone like a star at her work experience placement with Kokiri Marae and leaves our programme with a stellar reference, her First Aid certificate, and Learner Driver Licence!
From the beginning, our work with Jade has been a pleasure. Jade is always positive and willing to say yes to just about everything we ask of her. Jade has been a supportive voice in our group, sharing ideas and encouraging others and not afraid to talk about personal struggles.
Jade has a passion for kapa haka and her career goal is to work with young people in the mental health sector.
