GANYC is dusting off our traditional e-newsletter platform for one time this Summer to check in with our audience here. We hope that everyone is well, and has been staying safe during this ongoing crisis. During this time, GANYC has been busier than usual, as our Executive Board and various Committees work overtime to stay ahead of a fast-changing environment. To catch up with GANYC's work, visit
our COVID-19 Resources page.
On that page, you will see a summary of our COVID-era activities, including media outreach on behalf of NYC's out-of-work professional guides, videos of recent meetings, and more. That link, which is updated regularly, also includes an archive of The Virgil, the current e-newsletter that we have been sending out since March as our leading informational resource. The Virgil will continue to be published every other week throughout this crisis, and we recommend you
subscribe if you are not already receiving it.
Our most important recent effort was the completion of our new
Health & Safety Guidelines. They provide guidelines on how to safely conduct tours on the streets of New York City. The GANYC Health and Safety Task Force spent months working on these important documents, in consultation with medical professionals and all relevant state regulations. Three sets of documents were created... for Guests, Tour Operators, and Tour Guides. We recommend these guidelines to not just our members, but to all arranging, leading, or taking a tour in our great city.
“Walking tours provide wonderful chances for fun, safe and socially distant outdoor recreation here in New York,” stated GANYC President Emma Guest-Consales. “By combining best practices to be implemented by tour guides and operators before, during and after tours with the personal responsibility that all citizens should exhibit, these guidelines demonstrate we have taken every possible step to ensure our guests’ safety while touring the greatest city in the world. We are so excited to welcome visitors back to the Big Apple to enjoy all that touring New York City offers.”
Our next major effort in this regard will be the launch of Tour Your Own City, a portal site and marketing effort that will help connect local New York area travelers with local guides and experiences.
You can virtually attend our August membership meeting (see info in the section below) for a preview of that, as well as more information on what GANYC has been, and will be, working on.
Until then, be well, and stay New York Tough.
