NY Times Book Review Editor Pamela Paul

On Thursday, July 9th at 5pm, The Vineyard Haven Public Library Building Fund will present a free virtual event with New York Times Book Review Editor Pamela Paul. Attendance is limited, so please register to receive an invitation to participate online via Zoom: https://bit.ly/3fReRs7

Pamela Paul is the editor of the New York Times Book Review and oversees books coverage at the New York Times, which she joined in 2011 as the children’s books editor. She is also the host of the weekly Book Review podcast for the Times. She is the author and editor of five books, including My Life with Bob: Flawed Heroine Keeps Book of Books, Plot Ensues, and How to Raise a Reader, co-authored with Maria Russo. Her work has appeared in the Atlantic, the Washington Post, the New York Times Magazine, Time, the New York Times Education Life, the Economist, Vogue, Psychology Today, and other national publications.

This event will be presented as a conversation facilitated by Vineyard Haven seasonal resident Maureen Sullivan, a widely-recognized leader and educator in the library profession and past president of the American Library Association. A limited number of signed copies of "How to Raise a Reader" will be available to order through the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore.

The Vineyard Haven Public Library Building Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization, formed in 2018 to raise funds for improvements to the library building at 200 Main Street.

Contactless Pickup Options Expanded

Our schedule for no-contact pickup of books, movies, other physical library materials has been expanded. Patrons may pickup on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday from Noon to 4 pm, on Friday from 10 am to 1 pm, and Thursday from Noon to 6 pm. Pickups must be scheduled in advance, but in most cases we can accommodate same day pickup of available items.

Library staff are available by phone and email Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm, to assist with selecting material. To see what's new and available, visit our New Books page, updated weekly, to learn about titles recently added to the VHPL collection (page may take some time to load). CLAMS also maintains online lists of New Titles, Best Sellers, & Titles Coming Soon.

Statewide delivery between libraries has now resumed, so library cardholders can again request items from any CLAMS library for local pickup in Vineyard Haven. Delivery is operating on a reduced schedule, and it may take up to two weeks for requested material to arrive. If you need something immediately that is available at another island library, you may wish to make arrangements to pick up at the library where the item is available. All island libraries now offer contactless pickup services.

The library can now print documents for patrons to pick up during scheduled pickup hours. Send the document you would like to have printed to vhpl_mail@clamsnet.org as an email attachment. Please include your name, phone number, and CLAMS card number in the email. Printing charges of 25 cents per page will be added to your CLAMS account, and may be paid by check mailed to the library, or in-person when the library building reopens in the future. If you do not have a CLAMS account, you can register for a temporary card here: https://library.clamsnet.org/selfreg
