Ladies Sailing - Monday 6th July at 6pm
Ladiies sailing makes a welcome return this Monday. We look forward to seeing lots of ladies out on the water, and the forecast is looking good. Sadly no barbeque or bar this time, but come and enjoy the evening anyway.
Tea Bar - Limited Re-opening
With the further relaxing of lockdown measures, we will be re-opening the Galley/Tea Bar from next weekend, but with a slightly reduced service. Please follow the various social distancing measures that we have put in place, and use the one way system through the club room, entering from the hallway and leaving through the bi-fold doors.
For the moment we are not opening the bar, and you will not be able to sit in the clubroom. These restrictions are being constantly reviewed, and we hope to be able to re-open the clubhouse and perhaps the bar soon.
All payments will be contactless for the time being, and hot drinks will be dispensed using biodegradeable disposable cups.
Duties - Re-introduction of the Duty Roster
Please Volunteer Now
As we are now back using Sailing Club Manager we need you to sign up for your duties on the system. As before please volunteer to ensure you get the dates convenient to you, and if you do not volunteer the system will allocate duties to you. If you are able to volunteer for more than one duty please do so as it will help the club run smoothly and will help those of our members who are currently unable to do duties. For the present we need Safety Boat Officers and OODs, on Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternooons, and all day Sunday.
Please remember that once you are allocated a duty it is your responsibility to find a replacement if you cannot do it, so always best to choose your own dates.
To log into Sailing Club Manager go to the Website and click on Sailing Club Manager on the left hand side. If you do not have a log-in please contact membership@papercourt-sc,org,uk who will be able to help. For those new to duties, you have to have a power boat certificate to do Safety Boat duty, but anyone can be OOD.
Weed and the Weedcutter Update
As with every year, our weed is performing slightly differently. This year it has remained close to the lake bed, with very compact growth, possibly due to the very sunny spring and exceptionally clear water. The algae has come in early causing the weed to start growing more to the surface and just as we started cutting in earnest our Weedcutter sprung a leak in the radiator, causing the engine to overheat and stop working properly. The engine is out and at the repair shop, being rebuilt so that we can resume cutting again in the very near future.
Fraser having fun, and some close (but socially distant) starts
Racing - Introducing the Covid Cup Series
As well as the informal sprint racing that is happening on Saturday afternoons - everyone welcome to join in - today saw the re-introduction of more formal racing on Sunday Mornings - a breezy time was had by all.
This will take the form of a number of short back to back GH races at the moment, as the Committee Boat will be largely single-crewed by the PRO.
Briefing every Sunday at 10.00 AM - Racing for the Covid Cup Series
Watch this space for further developments on the racing front.
Cruising
Cruising is available to all members on Wednesday Evenings, Saturday afternoons, and all day Sunday.
Power Boat Level 2 Course Going Ahead
We have our RYA level 2 Power Boat taking place next month. Due to current distancing requirements we will be operating on reduced capacity so early application is advised. The course will run on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th August with a theory evening on Monday 10th August. This course is a pre-requisite if you want to drive a safety boat at PSC and is a very useful qualification if you want to charter power boats or yachts with tenders. Apply to Ashley Scott for an application form at ashley.scott102@gmail.com
Members use of the Lake on Weekdays
We are now in a position that members are able to come down to the club to sail any time of the week if you can arrange your own safety boat driver .
If you do decide to come down to the club please ensure that you follow all our current revised procedures for safety boats and only use the club to access the toilets . Click below to read the relevant guidance.
Hire boats are not available for members opening the lake for themselves.
On the following dates the lake will NOT be available:
27th - 30th July - ICS on site
3rd - 7th August - Adult only Summer Course
12th - 13th August - Power Boat Course
and please watch this space as further dates may be added
Again with the relaxation of lockdown, your Covid committee have looked at our current safety boat policy. Whilst generally the safety boats policy will still be single crewed, you may see some safety boats with two people in them sitting socially distanced at either end of the boat, and mitigating contact. This will mainly be during training, or if conditions are adverse, the Safety Boat Officer may co-opt a willing helper.
Please do not unsubscribe as this is our best method of communicating with our members.
