Letter from the President: Hello!

Welcome to Summer, 2020!  The co-op, under the competent leadership of Cathy, is doing well.  The governor has extended the wearing of masks until July 16th, we will continue to monitor and adjust as needed.

The educational programming at the Farmer’s Market at the Airport will continue this year.  Let us know if you have a topic you would like to present at the market.  So far we are scheduled for 4 weeks of programming.

We have obtained free consulting through the Small Business Bureau, and are learning about business promotion and have data to compare our business with similar businesses in the area.  This is a great benefit for the co-op, and we are appreciative of the service!  We did receive a small grant to help us through the Covid-19 crisis, which is also very much appreciated.  Please note our Pandemic Response Plan as posted on the website, following the state guidelines.

Also recently posted on the website is our Statement on Racism.    We are working closely with other local businesses to coordinate efforts to promote equality and justice.

The board has been meeting virtually and frequently during the past few months.  We have striven to post the dates/times of our meetings for members in the store.  If you would like to attend any of these meetings, email me for the Zoom link.  (president@northwindcoop.com)  We are certainly open for any input!

Respectfully submitted,
Dr. Deb Muskett

Manager's report

Life sure has been a whirlwind since our last newsletter, where do we begin!  Covid has taken a toll on us all but we have managed to stay healthy and a float. As an essential business, we were allowed to remain open since the Michigan closures began, but we decided to limit our business hours and shifted our focus to online ordering, curbside pick up and delivery.  We are excited to say we have started to expand our hours again while still offering online ordering, pickup and delivery.
We have been beyond grateful for the support of our volunteers who have been helping us behind the scenes to keep the store clean and organized and we have been humbled by the outpouring of love and kind words from our members and community who have stood by us as we navigate these uncertain times together.
On a positive note: we are excited to be a part of history in the making!  The Co-op along with several other Ironwood businesses have banded together in support of Pride Month and the Black Lives Matter movement.  We will continue to do our best to support our community, our values and each other as we adjust with the ever-changing world we live in.
So much gratitude to you all for being members, we rely on your support to keep our doors open.
Much love,
Cathy Flory

Treasurer's Report

We are very happy to announce that we are ending our third quarter of the fiscal year $11,796.00 in the black. We were lucky to receive a $5,000 grant via the Small Business Association as part of the Co-VID 19 relief package. This accounts for about half of our profit for the year; the rest is coming from the intelligent and careful management of our excellent staff. We are moving towards a place of being able to run the store sustainability. We hope to be able to end this fiscal year in the black and to start the next fiscal year with a strategic plan on how to best serve the needs of our customers, members and community at large.

Eleanor,

Treasurer
