Just when you thought life was getting back to normal (what is normal anyway?), the resurgence of COVID19 in Melbourne reminds us just how quickly good can turn bad. From a personal health perspective, it’s so important we continue to be vigilant and follow Health Department and Government advice. This is so critical as well to protect our working environments and prevent impacts to industry should outbreaks cripple the meat workforce.

Managing primary production workforce
In response to discussions with the meat processing industry, the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI), SafeWork NSW, and NSW Health, have developed resources to support food processing and manufacturing businesses manage the risk of COVID-19.
The Animal Welfare and Business Continuity Self-Assessment Checklist resources will help food manufacturers create specific plans to help protect those businesses, and their staff from the spread of COVID-19 or similar human health events.

Nearly 1 million students to be contacted about their training
The National Student Outcomes Survey is Australia’s largest survey of vocational education and training (VET) students. This year, nearly 1 million people who completed training in 2019 will be surveyed. The survey has also expanded this year to include students who study VET as part of their secondary schooling for the first time. The survey begins in mid-June 2020.
