From Sarika
Client's name is Sheela Devi. She is 26yrs old
Husband's name is Parshuram Paswan.
Sheela lives in Paharpur village.
She is 7months pregnant.
I told Sheela to take care of her diet and eat more green leafy vegetables.
I also told her about the benefits of visiting the Government Hospital to monitor her hygiene and to have regular checkups. She was very happy with this information as she said that she was unaware of all these benefits.
Sheela said that she had two children who were born at home but that this time she would definitely go to the hospital for her delivery. She would obtain a birth certificate for free there and she would get the money provided by the government for the delivery. Sheela Devi was really happy after our conversation. I told her all about the ultrasound and other tests. She told me after talking to her husband that she would definitely go for the ultrasound. She will take good care of her child.
Sarika was unable to get a photo of Sheela Devi, however here is a photo of Sarika and Wendy taken
last year in November.
Literacy Centres
The teachers have also been ringing the girls in the Literacy Centres and trying to organise a time once a week for an hour that they regularly talk with them, revise homework from the previous session, teach some new material and set new homework.
This has been quite difficult as parents often don't have a phone or they have not been able to put credit onto their SIM card. However some teachers have managed to talk to students and here are their reports.
Some teachers who live in the same village as the Literacy Centre have been able to meet students one at a time. We have stressed that they and the students must employ social distancing and wear masks.
From Rekha - Berma Literacy Centre
Rekha has been revising previous classwork and teaching new material to her students.
“A few days ago I talked on the phone with two of our students from Berma Literacy Centre, Rupa and Shivani. We revised some maths work and they answered addition and subtraction questions. I told them about COVID hygiene and how to wash their hands properly with soap. Today, I called Priya Kumari to come to the centre. She had forgotten some of what I had taught her earlier, so we revised for some time and then I taught her to add three digits in mathematics. I asked her to tell me the alphabet from A to Z in English. Afterwards I asked her to write some three letter words in Hindi for homework.”

“Today talked to my student Rinky and her parents in the village, I told them about the importance of continuing to study during the lockdown. While we were there, we called another student on Rinky’s parents phone to pass on my message.”
