Monday Memo

PSNC Pharmacy Advice Audit: Please submit your data

Community pharmacy teams have until 10th July 2020 to capture information about the advice they give to their patients and local communities.

Action for contractors: Please submit your data to PSNC via PharmOutcomes before 10thJuly 2020.

Last week pharmacies were encouraged to undertake the PSNC Pharmacy Advice Audit to capture information about the advice they give to their patients and local communities.

The data gathered will help demonstrate the added value pharmacies offer and assist in providing evidence to support the ongoing funding negotiations, including our call for more investment in the sector.

PSNC has had an exceptional response to the audit so far: thank you to the pharmacies who have already taken part. Those pharmacy teams who carried out the audit are requested to submit their data to PSNC via PharmOutcomes ASAP. However, they have also decided to extend the participation deadline to make sure no pharmacy misses out on the chance to submit their data.

Your data will help assess how many of these informal consultations are happening and their positive impact on the patient and wider health care system. PSNC hope to receive data from as many pharmacy teams as possible to build a strong evidence base.

Flu vaccination service: how can you provide it in a COVID-safe way?

In the season ahead, there will be a new challenge to overcome when providing the service: how to do so in a COVID-safe way?

Earlier this year, PSNC started discussions with NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) on potential changes to the flu vaccination service which could support provision in a COVID-safe manner. These include proposed changes to allow provision of the service within the pharmacy premises, but not within the consultation room and provision of the service off the pharmacy premises.

Their proposals are still being considered by NHSE&I, but they believe it is important that pharmacy contractors think about and plan for several different scenarios which may be open to them this year.

To help contractors and their teams with this, PSNC has published a briefing which can be used to plan COVID safe service delivery this year.

Action for contractors: please use the PSNC briefing to start planning how you be maybe able to deliver the service this year.

The briefing:
  • Provides early guidance for contractors and their teams on the regular in-pharmacy vaccination service;
  • Highlights the potential scenarios being discussed that may present additional opportunities to provide the community pharmacy flu vaccination service in other environments;
  • Lists considerations that contractors may need to reflect on ahead of the service launch; and
  • Highlights other resources which may support contractors to provide the service.

Contractors must however note that the changes PSNC is seeking to the flu vaccination service, described in the briefing, have not yet been agreed and may never be agreed by NHSE&I.

PSNC will confirm any agreed changes as soon as possible, but in the meantime, the options presented should only be used for planning purposes.

Further information will be provided when it is available
