I am writing to let you know that I will be leaving my position as Executive Director of Amethyst Place on October 31, 2019. For more than 20 years I have had the pleasure of working with some of the strongest and best women I have ever known. They have been the inspiration behind all that has happened here. Irma Salazar Robinson, who has long been associated with Amethyst Place, will step in as Acting Executive Director while the board looks for my replacement.
The decision to leave was not an easy one. My time here has been professionally and personally rewarding. I have watched Amethyst Place grow from seven families in the early years to 38 families today. Over the past seven years, 44 women who dropped out of middle and high school have received their GED. Today, almost half of our current residents are college students, all the first in their families to attend. Our programs, including the EnCompass Mentoring Program, 100 Jobs Program, and Graduate Aftercare Program (GAP) are all successful and operating at or near capacity.
Thank you for your partnerships and trust. Your support of the women here and their hard work and commitment to making a better life for their families means the world to all of us. I will work to make the transition as smooth as possible for Amethyst Place.
The Amethyst Place board is deeply grateful to Ms. Davis for her more than seven years of service to the organization as Executive Director and for her more than 20 years of dedication to the organization which she co-founded in 2000. Ms. Davis has been a guiding light for the women of Amethyst Place and has created a safe home for hundreds of women seeking better lives for themselves and their children in Kansas City.
Ms. Davis' last day will be October 31, 2019. The Amethyst Place Board has appointed an Executive Director Search Committee, led by Amethyst Place board chair Elizabeth Glynn, who will work to find a replacement. Ms. Davis will continue to serve as a resource during the search process. Irma Robinson, Amethyst Place Family Care Manager, will serve as Acting Executive Director during the transition.
The Board of Directors is confident in the strength of our program, the capability of our staff, and the potential of our clients. Should you have any questions regarding the upcoming leadership transition and associated planning process, you may contact Amethyst Place board chair Elizabeth Glynn at elizabeth@travois.com or 816-979-3208.
