Irish Sailing is the national governing body for sailing, powerboating and windsurfing in Ireland.

Sligo Yacht Club wins All Women Team prize at the inaugural Irish Sailing Pathfinder Women at the Helm Regatta

  • 61 boats entered with over 200 people taking part
  • Unique event where all boats had to have female helms (captains) to encourage women into positions of leadership on the water
  • Event designed to reverse trend of women leaving sailing when careers and family take over

Aiming for High Sustainability Standards

The Women at the Helm Regatta is aiming for Platinum in the Sailors for the Sea Clean Regattas program. This goes well beyond the usual request of zero single-use plastic and composting, with considerations to travel, carbon footprint offsetting, oil spillage, education and much more.

The Irish Sailing Team competed in Enoshima, Japan, in the Olympic Test event - “Ready Steady Tokyo”.

Team Racing at Your Club

Following funding success from the BIM FLAG initiative (Bord Iascaigh Mhara Fisheries Local Area Group Development), Irish Sailing is rolling out a Team Racing Programme which aims to reduce the attrition of sailors between the ages of 16 – 30 (especially females) at clubs and training centres throughout the country.
