Here's a look at current and future conditions for drought and rainfall in Texas and beyond via The Meadow Center’s Dr. Robert Mace:

The state went from less than 7% either abnormally dry or in drought on July 16 to more than 72% on August 20.

Much of the state saw less than normal rainfall over the past month.

Evaluation for the Development of a
Jacob’s Well Groundwater Management
Zone in Hays County, Texas 

The Meadows Center, in collaboration with the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, the Edwards Aquifer Authority and Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District, recently published a report evaluating a potential groundwater management zone to preserve flows to Jacob’s Well in the Wimberley Valley region. Full report from The Meadows Center →

Vulnerable Populations Exposed to Lead-Contaminated Drinking Water within Houston Ship Channel Communities 

Researchers from the Texas A&M School of Public Health, College of Architecture and College of Geosciences have released findings from a pilot study that collected survey data and performed lead analysis on drinking water in the small community of Manchester in Houston. Lead was discovered in 30.8% of homes, all below the US Environmental Protection Agency action level, but above the water standard goals. Full report from the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health →

Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Michael H. "Mike" Lewis as Sabine River Compact Administration Commissioner for a term set to expire on July 12, 2025.
Governor Abbott has appointed Jane Bell, Jason Peeler and Anita Shackelford and reappointed Dane Bruun, Dan S. Leyendecker, Dina Ramirez and David Purser for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025 to the Nueces River Authority Board of Directors.
Governor Greg Abbott has appointed James Abell, Jeff Hildebrand and Bobby Patton to the Parks and Wildlife Commission for terms set to expire on February 1, 2025. Additionally, the Governor reappointed Anna Benavides Galo for a term set to expire on February 1, 2021 and named Reed Morian chair of the commission.
Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Pat Gordon as the Rio Grande Compact Commissioner for a term set to expire on June 9, 2025.
Freese and Nichols, Inc. has named George Fowler, PE, MS a senior project manager focusing on water flow and river engineering to mitigate flooding.
