Issue # 23

From the President

For those that did not hear the cheers from Lark Hill turf on Saturday at 1.50pm, our Promotion 1 girls secured their Premier 1 grade promotion for 2020 with a big 10-0 win. A huge congratulations to all the players and coaches Tim Moore-Crouch and Kevin Knapp. There are a lot of people who have been part of this journey over the last few years and this is a big moment in our club history. A massive congratulations to all involved.

I see that the Social Committee have set a date for Seniors Annual Wind Up. Please make sure you RSVP and secure your tickets early. The committee are trying a different venue this year to ensure that everyone can enjoy the wind up and no one will have to work on the night.

For many teams this is the last round before finals begin. We have 11 senior teams and 2 more who can qualify for finals this year, plus a number of those who will finish on top and claim the minor premiership. Many of our Junior teams still have 2 or 3 rounds to go and a quick look through the ladders shows that a large number of our Junior teams will also play finals this year.

Can all teams please make sure that they enter their results and player lists on time, to avoid the club being issued fines.

Good luck to everyone playing this weekend.

Regards
Paul Hough
YMCC President

Club News

We could not have the Sportsman this week without a massive congratulations to our Promotion One and Two womens teams. Last weekend the Promotion One women had a massive 10-0 win over Rockingham to not only secure themselves the 2019 Minor Premiership but also Promotion into Premier One for the restructured 2020 season. The girls look forward to finishing the 2019 season strongly and we wish them all the best for the finals series, aiming for back to back flags.

The Promotion Two team also had 2 massive wins in 3 days. They defeated UWA 5-0 on Saturday and secured the Minor Premiership and promotion for 2020 with a 7-0 win over Joondalup on Monday night. The promo two girls remain undefeated through the season and boast a tidy 58+ goal difference at the top of the Promotion Two ladder.

These games also saw some individual brilliance with Eloise Rosser scoring 4 goals in the Promotion One win and Meg Cavazzi coming away with 3 goals in the Promotion Twos' win over Joondalup.

We would like to congratulate the senior promotion womens playing group, coaches and support staff on all their efforts not only this season but in the years gone by.

But also none of this would be possible without the support of the entire club. So well done to everyone playing for YM, from junior players, coaches and parents to the YM board, our amazing mens and womens senior playing groups and all the fans and family that turn up week after week to cheer on all the YMCC teams.

As Houghy has mentioned many of the YM teams are well positioned to make finals this year with only a few games left to round out the season.

Congratulations again to Marshall Roberts who played his 150th match for YMCC during the Premier One Mens side 1-1 draw with Wolves. The Premier One men are sitting 5th on the ladder and have two tough matches left in the home and away season, they'll be aiming to secure themselves a spot in the final series again this year. If you'd like to cheer the boys on they play Melville this Friday 23rd August 7.00pm at Shenton Turf

Our O/40 Division 1 and O/60 mens sides are also both sitting pretty at the top of the ladder. They will both line up this Saturday  24th August 3.30pm at Perry Lakes, with O/40 playing on field 1 and O/60 on field 2.

Match Review

Metro 2 Men

This week we were up against ECU. We started the game slowly, as our best player Harves was delayed when he had to stop to rescue a puppy on his way back from volunteering at the homeless shelter. But when he arrived and took up his position at centre forward things began to look better. The opposition never looked like scoring – Joshie and Red made every tackle in the back line, and Sean had a very easy day in goals. Perfect 16-yard hits saw the ball move swiftly to the midfield via precision passing by the Weapon and Claz on the wing half backs. Once Coco, Ozzie and the Animal got hold of the ball they delivered it to the strike forwards with devastating speed and accuracy. The first goal came from Harves with a blistering strike from the top of the “D”, while the second was the result of a pass from Burt who had wrong-footed the goalie, and Harves calmly finished off his good work. Bundy had a good shot after a run down the wing at breakneck speed, and even though the goalie stopped it Harves pounced on the rebound and slotted a tomahawk shot into the top corner of the net. At half-time the umpire asked if Harves could play left-handed to even things up a bit, but we still managed another two goals in the second half. Captain Budgie had danced around several defenders before sending the ball across the face of goals where Harves was able to pop it in, while towards the end of the game Harves nailed a short corner shot (left-handed remember) to round out a 5-0 victory.

Of course, this didn’t actually happen. We won on a forfeit. Astute readers will have picked up the only clue – Burt wouldn’t pass in front of goals.

Canteen News

The canteen crew had a busy Saturday morning last week when we hosted the first of the junior windups. We said farewell to the Minkey, shooting stars and J1/2 teams and parents for this season.

Our thanks go to the 9/10 A Reserve boys and the 5/6C girls for their help. In particular, our thanks to the Giles family, who were all seen at  the various food outlets and managed to bring  some
homemaking as well. Next week we have a much quieter morning as we host the YMCC Y3/4 windup.

BAR NEWS
Next weekend is the last of the grass home and away fixtures and YMCC is hosting 5 of our 8 grass teams. Apart from the bar, we will have nachos and party pies/sausage rolls available for purchase. The following week, YM is hosting the Semi-finals for at least 4 of the home teams so please come down and support the teams as they hopefully progress to the next round of finals

Match Report J7/8A Girls

The tensions were high as the YM 7/8 A girls stepped onto the pitch. We were playing Wolves. We were 1 point ahead of them on the ladder and so if we won, we would be 4 points ahead of them, comfortably in 2nd spot. Previously when we played them, we had lost 2-1, our only loss for the season and this time we had two players out (Georgia and Sascha) playing for the State U/12 Schoolgirls Team. We started off strong but within the first couple of minutes we were already 1 nil down. We fought hard to get it back but unfortunately, they won themselves a short corner and, after an unlucky deflection from one of our defenders, they were in the lead 2-0 at half time.

We started the second half strong, winning the one on ones and putting in the extra effort whenever possible. Our hard work finally paid off and we won ourselves a short corner. The pushout was strong, and Jemma smacked the cover off of it and we were finally rewarded for all our hard work. The score was 2-1, we were still trailing but we were not going to give up without a fight. We kept pushing and we were rewarded again with another short corner. We were smart, and we knew that to get the result that we wanted, we couldn’t do the same thing again, so we changed it up and did the triangle. The people involved were clever and waited to draw the player before they passed, and Jemma was rewarded with another goal. 2-2, we were getting a comeback. We fought and fought and then we got the ball into our circle and Stella on her reverse crossed it to Jemma where she was standing unmarked on the spot! She flicked it into the bottom corner, and we were winning, a hattrick for Jemma! But there were still 6 minutes left, so it was still anyone’s game. We managed to keep the ball out of our defending goal and won the game, coming form 2-0 at half time.

Social

To all the YMCC club members, families and friends

We would like to invite you to come to our Social night for the Grass Teams. The event will be held at Perry Lakes Clubrooms (Des and Pam Kelly Pavilion) on the 14th September 2019. The reason behind this event is celebrating the awesome club spirit we have amongst our 8 grass teams. The Bar will be open from 4pm. We invite you to bring food to share or even dinner?! The BBQs and ovens will be available to cook food. Feel free to drop off food off during the day (we have a new fridge for this, thank you Peter Judge and Town of Cambridge!) or bring it with you when you arrive!. We will provide the drinks through the bar and canteen. We look forward to see most of you there!
