Group Privacy: The New Frontier in Data Rights
Data isn’t the new oil, it’s the new CO2. We are more impacted by other people’s data (with whom we are grouped) than we are by data about us. We are bound by other people’s consent, and our own consent (or lack thereof) is manufactured. If you see data as CO2, it becomes clearer that its impacts are societal not solely individual. How do we protect ourselves from intrusive algorithms based on other people’s data while allowing them the benefits of data? This is the new frontier of data rights.

The Future of Independent Media
We'll focus on trends in journalism and what journalism will look like in 10 years: specifically, the evolving relationship between audiences and journalists (and the new wave of deeply engaged membership journalism), how journalism will be funded in the future (the role of philanthropy, paywalls, and crowdfunding) and the intersection of technology and independent media (for example, how will people get their news in 10 years?).
