Recreation in Oliver: what are the possibilities?

The City of Edmonton is starting a recreation needs assessment and needs your input! This is the first step to planning urban recreation that enlivens Oliver now and into the future.

You’ve already provided a lot of input through the engagement the Oliver Community League has done in the past few years. The City wants to build and expand off that, to understand what recreation means to the people who live in Oliver - including physical, social, intellectual, creative and spiritual recreation.

The first phase of engagement begins August 12 and will continue until the end of October. In this phase, the City would like to know what you do for recreation - everything from sports to spending time with friends or participating in community clubs. You will also be able to provide feedback on the opportunities and challenges of recreation in Oliver.

Look for pop up booths at community events to give your initial feedback. A survey will be available the first week of October. Visit edmonton.ca/oliverwellnessreimagined for details.

An open house will be held early November to share the results of everything we have heard so far.

If you have questions, comments or feedback, please email isdresearch@edmonton.ca.

“Let’s chat about Inclusion” on August 22

What is the Community Inclusion Committee?

A few like-minded volunteers who met at the EFCL’s Leagues Alive conference in October 2018 have recently created the Community Inclusion Committee (CIC) to generate awareness, dialogue and action for people to recognize community diversity as an asset and work towards real inclusion.

“Let’s chat about inclusion” is the CIC’s kick-off event.

What will the event look like?

The World Café-inspired “Let’s chat about inclusion” event discussions will be facilitated by community leaders who navigate their lived experiences as members of Indigenous and ethno-cultural communities as well as disabled, youth and senior groups amongst others. The Oliver Community League’s Social Advocacy Director Marc Workman will be speaking at the event.

The aim of the event is to provide a venue for Community League members to discuss how to best foster inclusion within the community league framework.

When: Thursday, August 22, 2019.

Registration starts at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

Discussion time will be 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Where: Ritchie Community League, 7727 98 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 5C9
