A positive attitude
A positive approach
A positive outcome

It can be really hard to stay positive with all of life’s challenges – however it is an essential ingredient to your diet success and also to success in life generally.

I really believe that being positive is a choice you make every day

Did you know that people that are very wealthy have often gone bankrupt one or more times but often they are able to turn things around and become wealthy again.  What enables this to happen?  It’s not the money that makes them, it’s their approach to life and problems that makes them.

Dieting can be a very challenging business, most of us having been a round the mountain more than once!  However if you choose to stay positive you really can succeed and not go back!  If you do have a bad day, a bad week, or a bad month, choose to fall forward, put it behind you and get back on track!

Important no classes for the last week of August.
Just to remind you all classes are closed the last week of August for our annual shutdown.Last class on Friday 23rd August and we are back Monday 2nd September.

7 foods for thought...
If you're over 40 and want to defy each passing year while promoting more youthful hair, nails and skin, the below 7 foods will help you stock up on some of the most powerful anti-aging nutrients around.
As per usual, moderation is the key!!

1.  Olive Oil - Not only do the monounsaturated fats contained in olive oil support healthy arteries and a healthy heart, but olive oil also contains polyphenols, a potent anti-oxidant that may help prevent a number of age-related diseases.  We recommend organic extra virgin olive oil for the most anti-aging bang for your buck.

2.  Red Wine - That's right, a glass of wine daily may indeed have a positive effect on your health due to its resveratrol content, a unique anti-oxidant that can help fight against diabetes, heart disease, and age-related memory loss. (don't get too excited though ..... one small glass)

3.  Beans - The unique proteins in beans thicken and strengthen your hair cells, so you can enjoy a full head of hair as you lengthen your years. :)

4.  Brazil Nuts - Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a mineral which aids in the production of the anti-oxidant glutathione to help slow down the skin aging process.  Just 2 nuts a day will provide you with enough selenium to reap its anti-aging benefits.

5.  Tomatoes - Tomatoes are rich in lycopene, which has been shown to support heart health and healthy cholesterol levels as you age.  Lycopene also acts as a natural sun block to keep skin youthful and protected from harmful UV rays.

6.  Raspberries & Blueberries - These two berries contain important anti-oxidants to help offset inflammation and oxidative stress that contribute to skin aging and wrinkles.  Just one serving of either or these berries contains more anti-oxidants than 10 servings of most other fruits and vegetables!

7.  Organic Eggs - Despite the bad rap eggs get because of their cholesterol content, which is based on completely erroneous science, eggs are rich in biotin and iron which help to promote healthy, youthful skin and hair.

Clean eating-Chocolate banana bread
After talking about sugar in class last week here is an alternative when the sugar cravings come along.

This clean chocolate banana bread is the ultimate treat, breakfast on the go, quick snack or little “me” moment with a nice green cuppa. Please I beg you not to eat it all in one go and keep some for the next day…the flavours settle and mix making it taste even better the next day! Moist, chocolatey, not too sweet and pumped with loads of great fibre, healthy fats and protein. If you don’t have chia seeds, you can use flax seeds instead.
Ingredients
  • 3 medium spotty bananas
  • 1 cup spelt flour
  • 1/2 cup cacao or cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup milk (I used Provamel coconut and rice milk)
  • 1 chia egg (1 tbsp chia seeds + 3 tbsp water)
  • 1/2 cup cocoa nibs (or you could use dark chocolate sugar, but watch the sugar)
  • pinch of salt
  •
  • Couple of tablespoons of liquid sweetener if you prefer something a bit more sweet (honey, maple syrup or date syrup)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees and grease your banana bread tin
  2. Mix together flour, cacao, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Make the chia egg and let it settle for 10 minutes
  4. In another other bowl whisk together mashed bananas, coconut oil, milk and sweetener if using.
  5. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined. Fold in the chia egg and then the nibs
  6. Pour mixture in the tin, pop in the oven and bake for around 1 hour or until a tooth pick comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool down completely before taking out of the tin

My final thought...
How many more years will you go on telling yourselves you'll do it when the time's right?

The time will never be right because you'll always find a reason for it not to be the right time.

The questions remain:
* What is it you want?
* What do you need to do to get it?
* Are you willing to do what you need to do?

NOW is the time. The decision to get started towards what you want is yours and yours alone. Don't waste any more time.

DO IT! DO IT NOW! NO MORE EXCUSES!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
See you in class
