Farm News

We're seeing a lot of happy faces in the U-pick garden these days - there's a lot to be had if you make it out to the farm. Flowers, cherry tomatoes, hot peppers, fresh herbs. And a beautiful view of the farm.

If you are considering making it out to the farm, the next 3 to 4 weeks are the time to do it. By the middle of September the U-pick will be well over it's peak - here also applies the farmer's saying "make hay when the sun shines".

As your farmers, we are truly blessed with the opportunity you, as CSA members, give us to work the land. Reflecting upon the 13 years of growing produce on this farm, it's amazing to see how our farm and our farm practices have changed over time. But even more amazing is that the challenges of farming continue to push us to keep improving. Never a dull moment!

As we are approaching the peak of our summer harvests, it's good to see that many of the fall crops are looking fabulous.

It looks like we're in for a good haul of produce for weeks to come!

Your farmers,

Raymond and Sara

Recipe: Sweet and sour cucumber salad

We are harvesting lots of cucumbers these days. We like to make cucumber salads. The trick here is the sweating of the cucumber slices with some salt!

Ingredients:

2 cucumbers, thinly sliced
1 TSP Salt
1/2 cup vinegar
2 Tsp sugar
Dill (optional)

Directions: Wash and thinly slice the cucumbers (kitchen machine works great!). Mix cucumber slices with salt in a bowl. Let the salted cucumbers rest for about 30 minutes, then rinse the salt off under running water in a colander.

Return the cucumber slices to the bowl, and add the vinegar/sugar mix. Refrigerate while marinating (about another 1/2 hour). Add finely cut dill if preferred. Side dish for 4. Enjoy!

Last Call To Add-on Winter Storage Shares

This is the last call to add a winter storage share to your regular CSA share.  We still have a few storage shares available, and although still a ways away, we like to finish up our planning around the winter storage shares.

We offer a bushel of storage crops (onions, potatoes, garlic, winter squash, cabbage, beets, carrots), which we will deliver in the week after the regular CSA share ends. This optional add on is $ 49.

To sign up for this share, please visit our website (use the link below)

In this week's share & U-pick update

This week's share:  Lettuce, garlic (full shares only), and cucumbers. We rotate green beans, summer squash, basil, cilantro, tomatoes, peppers, Swiss chard, kale, eggplant and sweet corn.

And it's a U-Pick Cornucopia! The U-pick garden is looking fantastic. Culinary herbs, flowers, lots of different cherry tomatoes, tomatillos (they are ripe when the husk is opening), ground cherries, hot peppers (from hot to very hot). All surrounded by a beautiful working farm!

Thank you for your support of our family farm!

We pride ourselves in providing our CSA members with an experience that exceeds your expectations. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any of your questions or concerns regarding the farm.
