Make a Difference: LWVO Volunteer Opportunities

Here’s your chance to be a Road Warrior reporting on Oakland's Police Commission, a new and unique agency that oversees the Oakland Police Department's policies, practices, and customs as well as the Community Police Review Agency, which investigates police misconduct and recommends discipline. Please step up and be part of the LWVO Observer Corps because it is through Observer Corps reporting that LWVO is able to monitor City government and take action as necessary. As background, The Police Commission meets at City Hall on second and fourth Tuesdays at 6:30 and is simultaneously streamed on KTOP. Reporting on the Commission is a challenging and fascinating assignment. Our outstanding observer Trisha Gorman has to step down, but will make herself available to give you the training and insight needed to succeed. Volunteer(s) will be paired with seasoned observer Ronnie Hersler. The assignment would start immediately and we are excited to hear from you.

100th Anniversary—  She is Me---"Progress is in our DNA”

On August 15th, LWVUS will launch the 100th Anniversary She is Me social media campaign with the tagline “Progress is in our DNA.”  This exciting campaign features League members and the work that is being done.  One of the featured League members is Berkeley, Albany, Emeryville’s Adena Ishii!  Designed for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, this campaign features short biographies and photos.  It continues through August 2020 and offers opportunities for viewers to gain more information, to join, and to donate.  All state and local Leagues have been invited to spotlight their own members and we at LWVO have begun these spotlights highlighting Ernestine Nettles, Bonnie Hamlin and Deborah Shefler, and there are more who you will meet each week.  Don’t miss “meeting” your fellow members who have done so much.
