Ding Suk Peng | Partner, PwC Myanmar
Suk Peng is a Myanmar based Partner with PwC Myanmar. She has an excess of 13 years’ experience in corporate tax planning, restricting and due diligence across Myanmar, Singapore and Malaysia. She specialised in taxation and investment related regulatory issues in Myanmar.

She has handled numerous Myanmar projects including providing tax due diligence and inbound tax structuring advice. She has also advised local companies on the restructuring of their business models and corporate structure. She is also responsible for Myanmar tax compliance for many companies covering both direct and indirect taxes. She has supported clients on corresponding with the Myanmar tax authorities concerning tax disputes or aspects of clients’ tax position adopted under enquiry.   
 
Khin Thit Yee| Associate Director, PwC Myanmar
Khin Thit, an Associate Director of PwC Myanmar, is a fellow member of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA). She specializes in Tax Advisory while she has an accounting and tax experience in excess of 18 years in Myanmar. She got nominated and selected to participate in Accountability in Government and Business Program under International Visitor Leadership Program of the State Department in USA as a community leader and education of Myanmar in the year 2008.

E-commerce Aid for Trade Fund-Funding Opportunity
 
Today, the Australian Government launched a program to help Myanmar maximise the benefits of digital trade. The E-commerce Aid for Trade Fund seeks to provide organisations and governments across the Indo-Pacific with support to address barriers to e-commerce, build greater e-commerce capabilities and leverage digital trade opportunities.
 
Grants, of up to AU$500,000, are open to public and private sector organisations. Applicant organisations may be government, businesses, Chambers of Commerce, consortiums, cooperatives, investors, multilaterals, NGOs, social enterprises or universities.
 
Frequently Asked Questions and a Fact Sheet is attached should you require more information. Applications for Round 1 are open from 31 July – 1 September 2019. Interested applicants can submit a short concept note via DFAT SmartyGrants website.

Tax amnesty proposed, prompting renewed debate (The Myanmar Time, 19 August)
 
The chorus of voices defending and opposing the reduction of tax rates for undisclosed income has come to the fore again following the submission of the Union Tax Bill 2019 to the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw earlier this month. The proposed tax reduction rate, or tax amnesty, could see tax rates revised to 3 percent for income up to K100 million, 5pc from K100 million to K300 million, 10pc from K300 million to K3 billion and 30pc for K3 billion and above. 

Local property portal raises $3m in second round funding (The Myanmar Time, 18 August)

ShweProperty.com, Myanmar’s online property firm, has raised US$3 million in a Series B round of funding to boost its business operations and streamline its home purchase system.“The latest round of funding will be used to accelerate all areas of our business operations, sales and marketing, product development, and includes our advanced transaction model that streamlines the home buying process for consumers,” said Kevin Goos, managing director of ShweProperty.

The Myanmar government is ready to sign a framework agreement with China on the establishment of cross-border economic cooperation zones, paving the way for the implementation of Beijing’s grand infrastructure plans in the country as part of its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). 

Myanmar's currency black market thrives in banks' shadow (Nikkei Asian Review, 14 August)

Even as banks take on a growing share of foreign exchange trading in Myanmar, black market dealers remain firmly entrenched, with the short-lived crackdowns by the government when the kyat moves too sharply doing little to root out the problem.
