Mowbray River Bridge tender released
Tenders to build a new pedestrian bridge across the Mowbray River as part of the Wangetti Trail project have been released.

The works will include a new pedestrian bridge, pedestrian underpass, viewing platform and demolition of the redundant Captain Cook Highway bridge substructure.

Construction on the new Mowbray River crossing and the trail north to Port Douglas could be completed by mid-2020.

Tenders close Friday 30 August 2019 at 2pm and are available here.

Cooloola Great Walk knowledge sharing

Our project team and the Kabi Kabi Applicants were recently on site on the Cooloola Great Walk at the Sunshine Coast sharing their cultural heritage aspects of the Trail.

The objective of the project is to work collaboratively with the Traditional Owners to enhance one of Queensland's long distance walking experiences.

With an outcome of an authentic ecotourism and cultural product, the next phase of the project is being rolled out in Q3 2019.

Don't forget to have your say on the Cooloola Great Walk

The Cooloola Great Walk presents a world-class opportunity to showcase the natural and cultural values of a cherished part of regional Queensland, designed to deliver environmental, social and economic benefits to local communities and to Queensland.

We are working with the project proponents to enhance the Walk by including new nature-based offerings such as low-impact eco-accommodation, guided tours and additional bushwalking experiences.

You are invited to share your ideas and knowledge of the Cooloola Great Walk to help shape the future of the project by Thursday 22 August 2019 by visiting http://ditid.mysocialpinpoint.com.au/cooloola-great-walk#/

Queensland Ecotourism Trails | FAQs

Answering commonly asked questions about the program:

Why are Ecotourism Trails in national parks or World Heritage areas?

With a welcoming year-round climate, Queensland’s competitive tourism advantage is built on our nature and wildlife experiences across 22 million hectares of protected areas, marine parks and five World Heritage Areas. The Queensland Government supports ecotourism opportunities that deliver environmental, social and economic benefits to regional communities and to Queensland.

The Queensland Ecotourism Plan 2016-2020 provides the framework for delivering new experiences and building a thriving ecotourism industry. The guiding principle is for Queensland’s treasured natural and cultural assets to be protected, conserved and presented for current and future generations to enjoy.
