A Letter from Pastor Cindy
From My Heart to Yours,
Jesus said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.” Your neighbor includes everyone with which we come in contact- both inside and outside of the church. Let’s all strive to do this better and better every day.
On September 26th, my husband and I had the honor of going to Holding Institute to deliver the large amount of items that you had generously donated. The workers at the Institute were blessed and excited that we had thought about the needs of those they serve. Thank you for reaching out to the least, the last, and the lost in this way.
Our church vision statement says, “ We are imperfect people called to love Jesus, serve others, and offer God’s grace to all.” I love everyone connected to SFUMC in any way.
God bless you all.
In Christ,
Pastor Cindy

Methodist Ladies’ News
There was no meeting in August and no September Church Newsletter, so let’s catch up!
We last met on Thursday September 12th at 2:00pm in our room in the Adult Education building. The agenda included the following:
* A devotional based on the parable of the Prodigal Son, (Luke 15:11-32) was presented by Terry Carmack using photos of Rembrandt’s painting entitled The Return of the Prodigal Son which she viewed during her time in St. Petersburg last month with MaryAnn Walborg. Information was shared from the book of that same title by Henri J.M. Nouwen, which was very important to both women.
*We had focused time on the status of the Fall Festival plans for our group’s Country Store booth and a time of sharing for those that have been working on projects for the Country Store so Kathleen Clock-Caso (who is in charge of our booth) could begin to get an idea of what will be sold to start the inventory lists. Wonderful creativity and enthusiasm were on display with hand-made items including sewing, crocheting, kitchen crafts like preserves, Christmas items, magnets, note cards, jewelry, prayer beads and more!
*Plans were made to send sign-up sheets on clip-boards during worship services prior to the Nov. 9th Festival for folks to work during the Fall Festival at the quilt show and the Country Store booth. Also bulletin flyers will be made asking for quilts for the show and for contributions of hand-made items for the booth for Sunday worship bulletins soon.
OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE A SPECIAL DAY! For several months JUDY McABEE HAS BEEN WORKING HARD IN PLANNING A GUIDED TOUR OF THE PAINTED CHURCHES IN THE SCHULENBURG AREA. THE TRIP WILL BE FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11TH. WE WILL LEAVE IN CAR POOLS FROM THE CHURCH AT 8:20 AM. COST FOR THE TOUR IS $10.00 PER PERSON AND THE TOUR WILL INCLUDE 4 CHURCHES WITH A LUNCH BREAK AT MOMMA’S AT SENGELMANN HALL. (EACH PERSON IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THEIR OWN LUNCH). WE PLAN TO RETURN TO SMITHVILLE ABOUT 3:00PM. Please be on time, wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a water bottle if you want and remember your camera.
*If you have any questions about the trip contact Judy: 407-319-3242 or text Terry: 512-237-0087.

Youth update from the Upper Room:
As mentioned before, building a youth group is not something that happens overnight. That being said, we’re doing better than expected at only month 6. We had 3 special events in the summer, which brought 17, 10, and 10, a total of 37 young people to our church. Our last 3 regular Wednesday night youth groups had 8, 17, and 20, which is FANTASTIC!!! The youth group also took on a project of having a Blessing Box. So far that Blessing Box has been a blessing to someone by providing 95 to 100 meals, and by providing summer reading books off the summer reading list from Smithville ISD.
Youth involvement in the church:
Our youth have continued to be involved in church activities. In September, our youth were active by helping serve meals on Wednesday nights, reading scripture in Sunday services, picking up church attendance sheets, turning off lights, blowing out candles, and taking up the offering.
Youth on the move:
Our youth are back on the move with school, two were invited to join National Honor Society, one was invited to join National Society for High School Scholars, one did very well in a golf tournament, one moved off and started college, and the rest have started band, football, and all of their other school activities again.
A word from the Director of Youth Ministries:
Please continue praying for our youth department. We are growing in numbers, which means we are reaching more young people with a weekly positive message. If you would like to give to the Blessing Box, we could use your help. We need the larger bottled waters, packages of snack crackers, animal crackers, small individual assorted bags of chips, and pop top Chef Boyardee or meal type soups are perfect. From myself and all of the youth, we want you to know how much we appreciate your prayers and support.

WEEKLY PRAYER IN THE CHAPEL
WEDNESDAYS @ 9:30 am
Prayer is a sacred practice that works in ways we can’t even begin to comprehend. As Christians, we have faith in God’s plan, but can you explain the peace or comfort you experience in the midst of grief or trials? Do you ever need a moment in the middle of your busy-ness week to pause and recharge? Come to the chapel and quiet your heart. Prayer is personal. Prayer is powerful. You will find your life enriched as you pray. Suzanne and Neta meet each Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Come as you are, come when you can.
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27 And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. Romans 8:26-27 NRSV

Announcement for children’s bulletins
Dear Members:
We encourage children to be part of our church. One thing that we offer is “Childrens Worship Bulletins”. These are entertaining and informative with stories, artwork, puzzles, games related the Bible. When children are given a bulletin of their own each week, they know that worship is for them, too. “Children's Worship Bulletins” come in two age groups: for ages 3-6 and ages 7-12. Both are filled with puzzles, codes, seek-and-finds, mazes, dot-to-dots, hidden pictures, word games and more. There is also a “secret code” to allow children to do Bible puzzles and games at home.
We have children’s packets in the Sanctuary for ages 3-6 and 7-12. Childrens are invited to use these and take home their Bulletin. We can provide more “Childrens Worship Bulletins“ to interested members.
{… insert clip art picture of Jesus and children…}
{… include a “Children’s Worship Bulletin” in a Sunday worship bulletin…}
