The month of August brings many events in the hand hygiene space, including global advocacy days and Stockholm World Water Week 2019. Information on upcoming events and more can be found below. 
 
Stockholm World Water Week 2019, August 25-30, 2019

World Water Week is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. In 2019, World Water Week will address the theme "Water for Society - including all".

The GHP and its partners will be hosting events of interest to handwashing practitioners and advocates below. 

A call to action for handwashing behavior change in emergencies

The Global Handwashing Partnership, Oxfam, Unilever, and UNHCR will host a sofa session that will examine hygiene in emergencies and speak on the Mum's Magic Hands program as a primary example for practical behavior change. The sofa session will be on Sunday, August 25, from 12:00-12:30PM. 

WASH at the Frontline - What Do Health Workers Want?

Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Global Water 2020, and the Global Handwashing Partnership will host a sofa session on the growing momentum of WASH in healthcare facilities. The sofa session will be on Sunday, August 25, from 4:00-4:30PM. 

A WASH-Nutrition Reality Check: Perspectives and a Pakistan case
The Global Handwashing Partnership and other partners will be hosting a side session focused on the importance of WASH and nutrition integration. The event will provide brief snapshots from key stakeholders and a country case study. The side event will be on Tuesday, August 27, from 11:00-12:30PM in Room M4.

Global Handwashing Partnership Strategic Planning Workshop

The Global Handwashing Partnership is in the process of renewing its strategic plan and will be hosting an all-day strategic planning workshop at this year's UNC Water & Health Conference on Friday, October 11, 2019.  Online discussion on WASH in health care & AMR from August 19-23

A week-long discussion (19-23 August) is being devoted to “WASH for patient safety and AMR reduction in healthcare – what countries can do to support implementation of the Wealth Health Assembly (WHA) 2019 resolution”. Participants are invited to share ideas of WASH actions as entry points for AMR national action planning and much more.

World Sepsis Day

World Sepsis Day is commemorated every year. Sepsis affects 30 million people worldwide every year, and of those, 6 to 9 million die. Many surviving patients suffer from the debilitating effects for the rest of their lives. Learn how to get involved here.

World Patient Safety Day

On the first-ever World Patient Safety Day on September 17, WHO will launch a global campaign to create awareness of patient safety and urge people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer, including improving WASH in healthcare settings.
