Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost

THE LATEST HAPPENINGS AT GSLC

On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,  and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all.  When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”  Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.”

The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie your ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water?  Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?”

When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.
GOOD SHEPHERD'S SUMMER PICNIC IS THIS SUNDAY!
August 25, 2019  10:00am
Our summer picnic is this Sunday.  There is still time to sign up to attend and to  bring a dish to pass.  The Fellowship Team is providing brats and hamburgers as well as watermelon and ice cones for dessert.

tables for EIGHT
You’re invited to dinner! Gathering around the table for a meal can be a sacred time of connecting with others. When we share a meal, we are sharing more than the food before us, but also a part of our lives.  This fall, we invite you to join others from Good Shepherd for four dinners over the course of four months. Each month you’ll gather with the same group of people (about 8 total) to eat, talk, and imagine.

This isn’t a planning session or workshop.

Our hope through these meals is for our congregation to be even more deeply connected to one another. During our dinner hour conversations, we will imagine what life together at Good Shepherd might look like in the years to come. And we trust that as we gather, two or three in Jesus’ name, that God’s Spirit will be in the midst of us.

Dates of meals:
September 18
October 9
November 20
December 11

How does it work:
All meals are held at Good Shepherd from 6:15 -7:45. The main dish and suggested prompts for conversation will be provided and we ask participants to bring a dish to pass. Each “table of 8” will be assigned a small group dining room where they will share their meal with one another.

How do I sign up?
Go to
eflock.org/tablesfor8 and fill out the form there. Families will be assigned to the same table.

This two-session class is intended to encounter the core of where we see God engaging and loving the world.  It is designed for people new to the faith, those wishing to transfer their membership from another congregation to Good Shepherd, and for anyone who wants to review the basics of the Christian faith.  Our hope is not to grow membership, but to grow in discipleship as we respond to the call of Christ in our lives.
A light meal will be provided.  If you need childcare, let us know as soon as possible so we can line up care.  Register at
