This Week's Sermon

Erik will finish out our summer sermon series, Love to the Loveless, by preaching on Hosea 14 on Sunday. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

(Listen to sermons our website or subscribe on iTunes. Please note: we are aware that some of our sermon recordings are cutting in and out. We appreciate your patience as work to resolve this!)

New Devotional

  • Backpack Devotionals: Our back-to-school devotional is now available on the City Church website! These short writings are meant to be read by families or by school-age independent readers—we think our older kids will enjoy them, too. (Adults are welcome to read them, as well.) Topics covered are: anxiousness, friends, comparison, peer pressure, and work. Each piece includes one or two Bible verses relevant to the topic and a prayer to use if you like. We hope they're helpful to the families in our church as they deal with all the comes with back-to-school season.

Happening This Week

  • City Group Leader Training: We will hold a City Group leader training on Saturday, August 24th, 8:30am to 11:30am in room 303. This will be a time of teaching, discussion, and prayer for first-time City Group leaders and seasoned vets alike to help us prepare for the upcoming academic year. If you are leading a City Group in the Fall, we strongly encourage your attendance. RSVP now! (Please note: childcare registration for this training is closed.)

Coming Up Soon

  • Welcome Back Sunday: Please mark your calendars for our annual Welcome Back Sunday—this year it will be immediately after our service on Sunday, September 8th. We'll meet in the Fellowship Hall to share a meal and spend time with old friends and new. Bring a dish to share!
  • Middle School Fall Weekend: City Church of Richmond's Fall Middle School weekend will be September 6th through 8th. Middle School Weekend takes place at Young Life's Rockbridge Camp in Goshen, Virginia. We join with other churches from around the state to have fun building friendships and learning about God through times of worship, talks, small group discussion, and free time at the camp. Over the weekend the kids will have a chance to do all the activities that Rockbridge has to offer: zip line, ropes course, lake, pool, sports, and more. Registration is $150 and includes lodging and on-site meals for the weekend.  Fill out the registration form here, and contact Jim (jim@citychurchrva.com) with questions.
  • Women's Bible Studies: Our Fall Women's Bible Studies will kick off the week of September 9th! We will have two studies meeting this fall: one on Monday evenings and one on Wednesday mornings. Please head over to our website for more information about these studies and for a link to register.

Serving Our Community

  • Welcome, Pulizzi Twins! On Wednesday, August 14th, Jacob Leonardo Pulizzi was born at 8:01pm weighing in at 5 pounds, 5 ounces! Julia Ruth Pulizzi joined her brother at 8:30pm, weighing in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces! We are coordinating meals for Susan, Jim, Hannah, and Claire as they adjust to life at home as a family of six. If you're interested in caring for them in this way, please visit takethemameal.com to sign up. The log-in and password are Pulizzi.
  • Welcome, Baby Pryor! Holland Rose Pryor was born at 12:04am on Friday, August 16th, weighing in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces. We are also coordinating meals for Brianne and Jeremy as they get used to life with their new baby girl. Please visit takethemameal.com to sign up. The log-in and password are Pryor.
  • Mercy Fund on Sunday: In addition to our regular offering, we will take up a special Mercy Fund offering during Sunday's service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Contributions made to the Mercy Fund will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
Have a great week—and we hope to see you soon!
