$1 million NSF grant

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded a five-year, $1 million grant to fund Maryville College’s Scots Science Scholars (S3) program. The funding will broaden the program’s impact to create a culture of STEM on campus. Read the press release!

Maryville College's 2019 Convocation ceremony will be held Aug. 22 at 11:15 a.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts. The ceremony, which is open to the public, marks the opening of the 2019-20 academic year. Read more about this year’s event, as well as the history of Convocation at MC!

Because of its commitment to and success in attracting and supporting military-related students, MC again has been listed among Viqtory Media's Military Friendly® Schools. The 2019 recognition is the fourth in four years from Viqtory, which is considered a standard-setter for colleges providing positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families. Presidential Transition

Dr. Tom Bogart announced last month that he will not extend his service as president of Maryville College beyond his current term, which ends in June 2020. Discussions regarding the search for MC’s 12th president are under way. Read the press release.

Wildlife Calendar

MC’s 2019-20 Wildlife Photography Calendar is available for purchase. The 17-month calendar (August 2019 through December 2020) features beautiful photos taken by students in Dr. Drew Crain’s “Wildlife Photography” course. Calendars can be purchased in the campus bookstore for $10 or shipped for $15. To have a calendar shipped to you, please complete this form or call 865.981.8164.

Six independent films are coming to the Clayton Center for the Arts in 2019-20, as part of the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, a program of South Arts that brings the best of new independent film to communities across the South. Read more about the films!

During College & Community Day on Aug. 10, attendees had the opportunity to watch the premiere of a special video created in honor of the College’s Bicentennial. The video includes archival footage that hasn’t been shown before. Watch the video!

Bicentennial Celebration

 
Please note that the 2019 Founder’s Day will be replaced by the Bicentennial Celebration Gala on Sat., Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clayton Center for the Arts. Tickets are $25 and will be available for purchase on Sept. 1 at the Clayton Center Box Office. For tickets, call 865.981.8590 or visit claytonartscenter.com. We hope you’ll join us as Maryville College marks its 200th anniversary!

Nov. 1-2: “To Know You” Play
“To Know You,” a play about Susan Wiley Walker (MC benefactor and architect/first resident of Morningside, which is now known as RT Lodge), will be performed Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts. The performances are free and open to the public, but a printed ticket from the box office is required for admission (tickets available Sept. 1). MC alumni will recognize several of the characters who make an appearance during the play! Visit the Bicentennial calendar for more details.

Dec. 6: "Messiah" Performance
Join us for a special Bicentennial performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at the Clayton Center for the Arts! Watch the MC website for more details.
