 What's happening this week?

Monday: Early Release - 2:45pm

 Labor Day - No School

There is no school on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend!

 Supervisor Mandelman!

Harvey Milk would like to thank our District Supervisor, Rafael Mandelman, for being a prominent supporter of our school. While we are under construction, the majority of our playground is inaccessible. To ensure the students do not miss out on important physical education we've reserved exclusive use of the gymnasium at Eurkea Valley Rec Center every Monday. This would have cost the school over $4,600. Mandelman was able to secure the money needed to pay for this through his Add-Back Funding resource. Thank you, Rafael for your support!

Thursday, September 5, 5:30-7:00pm
Cafeteria and classrooms

Back-to-School Night is a chance to meet members of HMCRA’s staff, hear from Principal Machado, talk with your child’s teacher, and learn more about our school community. We hope to see you there!

Join the 2019 Annual Giving Campaign team!

The Annual Giving Campaign -- the biggest PFC fundraiser of the year -- is just around the corner! It will kick off next month.  Here are some ways you can help:
  • Create flyers
  • Write emails and letters
  • Create videos
  • Design our popular participation prizes
  • Update the fundraising website
There are lots of ways to support the Annual Giving Campaign and the PFC!  Every bit of help counts.  If you can pitch in a little or a lot, please email Cindy at Donations@harveymilk.com.

 Message from the librarian:

While our new school library is under construction this year, each classroom will take monthly walking trips to the Eureka Valley public library to check out books.

Students will need their library cards. If you can - please send the smaller, key chain version of your child's library card so that we can keep it at school with their library book bag (which will be provided). Please give the cards directly to your child's teacher - make sure their name is on it! Or you can leave it in my mailbox in the office (Sarah Kern). This way, they will always be ready to check out books from the public library or the mobile library (which will visit the school monthly as well). Kindergarten students will all receive a new card on one of their first library visits.

If you are interested in helping with, or have questions about the walking trips, please email me at kerns1@sfusd.edu.

 Diversity & Inclusion Committee Meeting

Tuesday, September 10, 5:00 - 6:00pm

The Diversity & Inclusion committee's mission is to promote diversity and community within our school. Everyone is welcome to attend the first meeting, which will take place just before the first PFC meeting of the year!

For more information, or if you have any questions, please contact diversity@harveymilk.com

 Parent Faculty Club Meeting

Tuesday, September 10, Cafeteria
Dinner at 6:15pm, Meeting starts at 6:30pm

We invite you to join the Parent Faculty Club (PFC), our school’s free parent teacher organization, tasked with building our community and raising funds to fill the budget shortfall every public school unfortunately faces. It is your opportunity to share your ideas, ask questions, or just learn more about what makes HMCRA tick.

We’d love to see you at our first meeting of the year, so mark your calendars. Food and childcare are provided.

 Room Parent Volunteers

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered to become a room parent. We are still looking for more volunteers, especially for 3rd Grade and Ms. Vashti's Kinder class. Please contact roomparents@harveymilk.com if you are interested.
