YA Lit FEST 2019

It’s time to celebrate Young Adult writing, reading, and authors at our premier YA event for the year. Writing workshops, Discussion panels, Author talks plus give-aways, book signings and more!

MC Danielle Binks joined by authors Shivaun Plozza, Jodi McAlister, Lucy Hamilton and Scot Gardner will discuss the paths to publishing and how these authors found success in the YA field.

Jock Serong: Preservation

Jock Serong is the author of  On the Java Ridge, shortlisted for the 2018 Indie Awards. In his latest release, Preservation, Jock turns his talents to historical narrative. Join us as he discusses the indepth research and fascinating back stories behind his novel, which is based on the true story of the wreck of the Sydney Cove.

Taxation in Australia for CALD communities

Join us to learn how the Australian tax and superannuation (or ‘super’) systems work. This easy to understand session is aimed at socially, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) audiences, in particular individuals who are new to the Australian tax and superannuation systems. Australian Taxation Office (ATO) staff will be available to answer your tax questions, with a Mandarin speaker from the ATO also present.

Dyslexia - What it is and how to help your child

This session will give a broad overview of dyslexia, its signs and symptoms, the problems encountered by children with dyslexia, and the ways in which they can be assisted at home. Presented by Ashraf Samsudin, Specialist Education Consultant with SPELD Victoria.

Local government has had a strong presence and involvement with health protection to provide and maintain healthy environments across cities and regions. This session will discuss the evolution of public health from tackling disease causing risk factors associated with poor housing and sanitation.

Dramatic Read-Along

Be part of the experience this Australian Reading Hour as we come together to celebrate bringing the written word to life. Together, we will read from The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. The search is on for Australia's 2019 poetry slam champion! Speak, scream, howl, whisper or even sing your poem, lyrics or monologues in this live event where the audience is the judge. Join MC Joel McKerrow, one of Australia's most successful internationally touring poets, at Doncaster library.
