Notes on reviving a painting practice
Monhegan Island: Spotty cell and wifi service, no tvs, no cars. No wonder half the population (65 total) paints.

Amanda’s Fantasy Painting Camp

I slow down my painting practice in summer because I have a young son out of school, and this year was no exception. Until—I went full art immersion at a weeklong painting workshop off the coast of Maine, July 27-Aug 3. The trip was a gift from my mom, two friends from high school (we’re all artists now) joined, AND our high school art teacher was the instructor. I could not have planned a better way to nerd-out with painting. It was a very special trip, and you can see my paintings and read about the trip on my web site.

Meet Me at Lakeview East Festival of Arts

September 14-15, just 3 weeks away!
Broadway from Belmont to Hawthorne

Yes, you can see my art online, but don’t you want to see it in person? Maybe with a cold drink in your hand? Join me at the Lakeview East Art Festival, where I’ll show my Winter Blues series, new work from Maine, beach scenes, florals, and a few surprises. This event has a strong reputation as a fine-art shopping destination. If you need to cover some wall space in your home, this is a great place to see a large selection of styles and media by local and regional artists. Browse in advance on the festival’s web site, where you can see a sample of each artist’s work.

On the Blog: "Look, Honey--It's Artists!"

About me: I paint in the controlled comfort of my studio, and I take my time.
About painting outdoors: It is the opposite of that.
And so, I was nearly trembling with nervousness when I set up my outdoor easel for the FIRST TIME on the painter’s paradise that is Monhegan Island (12 miles off the coast of Maine) for a week-long plein-air painting workshop. READ MORE.
