Each budget year, money is set aside for the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to fund community projects that improve public property such as streets, sidewalks, and parks. Recently, the Council adopted the $34.5 million funding allocations. Some funded projects in District Two include:

$195,104 for a 9-Line Community Orchard at 1100 West.
$1,378,764 for Fisher Carriage House Redevelopment into a Nature and Recreation Center.
$431,000 for Jordan Park Events Grounds.

Overview of this year's process

In 2018, the City identified street conditions, affordable housing, public transit, and neighborhood safety as important priorities needing ongoing funding. Here’s what was in this year’s budget:

Street Conditions

$289,369 in delayed hiring savings moved to streets-related projects.
Continued funding for second crew that doubles road maintenance capacity.
Bond funds will be available for street reconstruction projects later this year.

Public Transit

Enhanced (more frequent, evening, and weekend) bus service began on August 11 on Routes 2, 9, and 21.

Affordable Housing

$2.59 million moved from the Housing and Neighborhood Development Division to the Redevelopment Agency to streamline and simplify the development loan application process.
$1.9 million for housing assistance programs.
