Each budget year, money is set aside for the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to fund community projects that improve public property such as streets, sidewalks, and parks. Recently, the Council adopted the $34.5 million funding allocations. Funded projects in District Four include:

$50,000 for Richmond Park Community Garden.
$210,000 for 10th East Senior Center Retaining Wall Replacement.
$3.445 million for Pioneer Park Improvements.

NWQ, LLC Agreement

The Salt Lake City Council, in our capacity as the Redevelopment Agency Board (RDA), adopted the final component of a development agreement between the City and NWQ, LLC on Tuesday, August 27. The agreement was negotiated by RDA staff and approved by Mayor Jackie Biskupski in her role as Executive Director under proper planning, zoning, and land use regulations.

The agreement preserves many City interests, including environmental safeguards that protect the migratory bird population and wetlands. It also preserves the City’s role in taxing and land use authority for this area.

El Concejo Municipal de Salt Lake City, en nuestra capacidad como la Junta Directiva de la Agencia de Reurbanización (RDA), hemos adoptado el ultimo componente de un acuerdo de desarrollo entre la Ciudad y NWQ, LLC que fue negociado por personal de la RDA y aprobado por la Alcaldesa Jackie Biskupski en su papel de Directora Ejecutiva bajo las regulaciones apropiadas de planificación, zonificación y uso de la tierra.

In 2018, the City identified street conditions, affordable housing, public transit, and neighborhood safety as important priorities needing ongoing funding. Here’s what was in this year’s budget:

Street Conditions

$289,369 in delayed hiring savings moved to streets-related projects.
Continued funding for second crew that doubles road maintenance capacity.
Bond funds will be available for street reconstruction projects later this year.

Public Transit

Enhanced (more frequent, evening, and weekend) bus service began on August 11 on Routes 2, 9, and 21.

Affordable Housing

$2.59 million moved from the Housing and Neighborhood Development Division to the Redevelopment Agency to streamline and simplify the development loan application process.
$1.9 million for housing assistance programs.
