Kia ora te whanau,
Wow I can't believe its newsletter week again! It has been a busy few days with the ski trip, Rimu Forest School visit and Kahikatea Community Day.
On Tuesday, the teaching team were released for the day to work on designing our local curriculum with Nick Major from Core Education. The New Zealand Curriculum sets out the broad direction for schools but gives mandate to develop local curriculum to reflect the aspirations and the resources of our community. The teaching team considered the purpose, process and content of this document and made a good start framing up what will be a long term project - look out for opportunities to engage with this as we progress discussions over the coming months.
Community Survey
Again, many thanks for the time and thought you gave to your responses to the recent board survey. Please see the summarised key messages and agreed actions that came from your feedback.
Valley to View
Many thanks for the amazing response we have had offering support for the Valley to View event this Sunday. Help us promote this events by encouraging friends and family to attend and by sharing this event via social media. Please use this link to view the finalised helpers roster for the weekend. We still have a few gaps in key areas, so please get in touch if you can fill any of these.
Board Update
Our new board met last week to elect a new chair and distribute portfolios. We are really appreciative of Alice Scranney remaining on the board as a co-opted member until the end of the year to support the new board with her wealth of knowledge and experience as a trustee and member of the Nelson City Community of Learning Governance Group. Trustee's responsibilities from this point forward are as follows:
- Chairperson - Shelley Fowler
- Immediate Past Chair - Alice Scranney
- Finance - Alistair Mapperley
- Property - Tina Hanrahan
- Policy - Kerry South
- Personnel - Ash Hilton
- Health & Safety + Staff Rep - Pam Stack
Property Update
Next week our library makeover begins with painters up first to do their thing! The next stage involves installing Autex Composition above the shelving to improve acoustics and create a display space for children's work. Many thanks to Emma Gale from Frank Design for her help putting together a fun colour scheme for this space.
Plans for our new classroom remain available in the office for parents to view and I am happy to discuss details with anyone who wishes. Alternatively, Tina (Board Property Rep) will lead a community consultation meeting on Tuesday 27 August to discuss these plans in detail.
