The Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

The Lord's Prayer: Deliver Us From Evil...

Natural disasters. Wars. Accidents. Wicked people. Wild animals. Weird parasites. Terrible diseases. If you wanted to tally up all the things in the world that could hurt you, you’d have a long list and you’d find that you could easily live a life filled with fear much of the time. The toll that sin has taken on the world is huge, and danger can be found just about anywhere. Rather than living lives filled with fear, God invites us to entrust all these dangers into his hands as we pray that God would deliver us from all our enemies, physical or spiritual, and lead us safely along the path of life until we arrive home in heaven. Worship at St. John’s features a sermon based on 2 Kings 6:8-17.

Readings to prepare for worship:
Genesis 18:20-32 - Abraham prays boldly for Sodom and Gomorrah.
James 5:13-18 - James encourages believers to pray boldly in every situation.

Luke 11:1-13 - Jesus encourages his disciples to pray boldly to their heavenly Father.

God's blessings on your weekend! See you at worship!

Rooted & Mowing Work Day
Thursday, August 22

Join us for gardening work from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. for weeding around school. Please bring garden gloves, favorite weeding tools, a bucket for weeds, and (if you have them) a small garden scissors or pruner. Click here to contact Kurt and Kelly Kramer with any questions.
Door-to-Door Canvassing
Saturday, August 24

Help us share the hope we have in Jesus by showing love to St. John’s neighbors and inviting them to our upcoming events. We’ll meet at church at 9:30 a.m. to prepare, then will head out for an hour of planting gospel seeds. Afterwards we’ll enjoy a lunch together back at church and share stories. No previous experience is required. Click here to e-mail Adam Goede if you plan to participate.
Advent by Candlelight - Save the Date!
Sunday, December 8
It may be hot outside, but our Advent by Candlelight planning committee is hard at work! Ladies, now's the time to start thinking about hosting a table for this annual event. Hostesses provide table settings, holiday decorations, candles, and a dessert for a table of 8 or 12 ladies. Many partner with one or two others to host a table. It is lots of fun and requires only a few hours of your time for planning, baking (or buying) a dessert, and decorating. Click here for all the details.
