Welcome to the School Year!

It is wonderful to have the staff back from their summer adventures and learning, and to be putting the pieces in place for students to arrive.  I am looking forward to spending a night out on Wilderness with a high school group, and spending a day rafting with the middle school on Orientation!

A quick note about the family handbook.  In the interest of clarity, we have split the handbook into two pieces: the
Family Information Handbook and the Community Commitments Handbook.  The Family Information Handbook is your go-to source for basic information, while the Community Commitments Handbook is the place you will find our community expectations -- how we commit to living and learning together.  Note that all parents and students are required to read the handbooks then sign and return the last page of the Community Commitments Handbook by Monday 8/19.

One more note: in the Information Handbook you will find the weekly schedule.  We made a few tweaks to the schedule to better align with our mission and design principles.  We moved some of our Community Meeting times from the end of the day to the middle of the day so students do not need to mentally switch from a long block of Expedition to a meeting.  Students also expressed a preference for having Fresh Air on Tuesday and Thursday because those are long class days, so we switched the days of Gathering and Fresh Air.  Finally, you'll note that our skills classes now have a long block on Wednesdays. This block will rotate weekly to allow each skills class to engage in more work beyond the walls of the school.

I hope to see you at Shedfest on Thursday!

Warmly,
Tim

ShedFest
The first day of school is August 19th, but the Watershed experience kicks off with ShedFest on the evening of Thursday, August 15th from 5:00-7:30. Please plan to join us for an evening full of live music, food, and an overview of the Wilderness/Orientation programs. We will also have a New Parent orientation for new families. This is a great night to both see old friends and get to know the new faces in the community! Best of all, students will find out who is in their Advisory for the coming year!  We'll have the grill going and food ready starting at 5pm!
  • 5:00-5:30- New Parent Orientation
  • 5:30-5:45- Students (new and returning) meet with their advisors!
  • 6:30-7:00- MS & HS Wilderness Orientation (for parents)
Community Day
Students will kick off the year with a Community Day on Monday, August 19th! Pizza lunch will be provided, and will have dairy free, gluten free and vegetarian options. Students do not need to bring school supplies. Please be dressed and prepared for a full active day (appropriate footwear, weather appropriate clothes, sunscreen, personal snacks, water bottle etc).
